  1. All I know about it is my half-brother took the shots. When he first took them, it was a miracle He was ten years older than me. He began to waste away but had a substance abuse problem. Neuropathy set in and he succumbed to a blood clot. When he asked for help it was way too late. I miss what he used to be but I never looked up to him as I once did. RIP Bob.
  2. Oh my gosh that brings up memories. Kindergarten, Christian school, Miss Vikki. I guess I made her mad one day as I ended up in Principal office. Back then you got the paddle and the paddle had holes in it for air flow. I never made Miss Vikki mad again and yes, I probability deserved it.
  3. Now to the second hive just built. It is a long Lang. Again, a horizontal hive but not a double deep. It uses the standard deep Langstroth frames. Because it is single deep you need more frames, but the bees have to travel farther across the hive to build. Takes more frames but since they are the bee keeping industry standard and they are readily available. Three entrances available. So far, I have only opened two. The more you open the more bees have to defend against robbers or pests like wax moths and hive beetles. If you have a very strong hive no problem. You need to make coverboards that cover the open frames unlike the closed top frames in the Layens hives. Only remove the boards that you want to work under disturbing fewer bees. In the last picture you can see a standard Langstroth hive. I over wintered three of these in a single deep box. This was a very strong colony and it made it through winter fantastic. Last week on a warm day I transferred the colony to the new long lang and removed the box. The returning foragers went right to the new home. The colony was so strong the honey stores were still full, so I gave them three new frames.
  4. One of Pat's duties is giving testosterone shots at work. I asked if it was doing anyone any good? She just rolled her eyes. Hummmm should I be worried? 😁
  5. Thanks Doug, I may go to bed early but I am up at 5AM most days. You know while you are still sleeping.
  6. Kind of like you in your fancy duds and waders. Looking for a good time below Table Rock dam. 🤣
  7. Mine at first came the same way. I cannot exactually tell you how long until final approval. A packet will come in the mail with your new card. It will also show up on your Mo hunting or Mo fishing app if you have that on your phone. Hope I did not step out of line telling you this is how mine was done.
  8. Meade in the making. Next step a swirl in approximately 15 days.
  9. Frames for the Layens, Layens frames are what is called double deep. Here are a couple pictures. First one to compare to a standard deep Lang frame, All but a few we have the bees start on a starter strip across the top of frame. We have a few where when setting out swarm traps last season I cut sections out of old comb standard Lang frames to bait the traps. When these are full of capped honey it is an amazing sight. We had several we harvested last fall full of honey. These frames not being standard around here are orderable but expensive. I chose to build my own. Plans are out there for the frames and all the hives, and it is all free. Youi have the top bar, bottom bar and end bars, Assembly with a jig is quick. A few dabs of glue and air staples and you are done, I add a bamboo skewer about midway down to reinforce the free-floating comb as the bees draw it down. The size hive I build is fourteen frames, but you can add length to the hive build for more frames if you choose. There is also a follower board and more of that deal later,
  10. Going to start with the three new hive builds done this winter. One long lang and two Layens. These hives the bees build horizontal instead of vertical like the standard Lang hives that commercial and hobby beekeepers use. The reason I am doing this is easier to maintain and work. No bending over and heavy lifting of boxes. The downside is once these are placed that is where they will stay. Can be moved but not as portable as standard Langs. We are hobbyists here so what I have at the moment is right here in our "bee yard". Both types of hives are made with dimensional two by lumber making them thicker sides that help in overwintering colonies with more insulation. Let's start with the two Layens. Very Popular in Europe. Starting to get a following here in the states. We paint our hives to make each one unique and to help the bees recognize their homes.
  11. Got Ya copy and paste! After seeing the good picture, I googled up the bird to see other snapshots of the lovely specimen. That particular one is all over the internet and I thought maybe you were famous. . Just wanted you to take credit if you took it.
  12. Mine is too DJ. Got the large, raised beds turned and worked well. Cover has been on one for a couple weeks and dirt was warm. Lettuce got planted in that one and re-covered.
  13. Yes the warm temps have the bees going crazy here too JD. I have been now in all my hives. Nees to do a report and get this thread going. Two hives in particular are doing fantastic with large capped brood patterns. One was a Suprise when transferring from a standard single deep Lang that overwintered well.
  14. That is a fantastic picture John! Did you take it?
  15. Yes as far as I know you can still access the river at N. Actually, a couple years back the road was redone to the ramp and ramp was cleaned up with some gravel. Fishing down below the bridge one sunday morning in my pond prowler they turned on the water. I had parked my pickup by the water. I hit the TM as fast as it would go and by the time, I got there the water was up to my running boards. You could count on no water running on Sunday but not that day. The little park above the mill dam in town was originally owned by MDC. They abandoned it and it was then given to the bridge society in town. You could still camp there and launch. I am not sure what happened if it was an insurance deal but then it was sold to a gal in town. She started charging for camping and soon it was chained off and no trespassing. You are right about the fishing above. Some nice smallmouth up there too. I have caught two below the dam since I fished there but a bunch above. Farther up you go the more there are.
  16. Like it or not Seth there comes a time when you have to do what you have to do. Young man be invincible as long as you can and enjoy it. Time will go by faster as you get older! Good thing though we can still read reports from young bucks such as you .
  17. Crazy old coot confirmed.
  18. Same last name? I was beginning to confirm my thoughts you were a crazy old coot.
  19. Whaaaat? Never fished there until the 80s.
  20. So, we spread the doom and gloom on the conspiracy side. Now let's learn what others say . Also, this got me to thinking. Did you all know lifestyle and alter your genes too? Anti-vaxxers say a new study claims mRNA vaccines can alter your DNA. Here's why experts say that's bunkum - ABC News Can Vaccines Alter Your DNA? - VAXOPEDIA
  21. Been a slow start with all the things we have going on, but it has started .
  22. Just seen on the news this morning a guy drowned yesterday at twin bridges while launching his boat. Backed in and boat and truck right in and never resurfaced. I don't like the long ride up from that launch and the idea from Conners would suck even worse. The gravel washed in at the 10 launch is really getting bad. As you back in the back of the trailer begins to ride up higher from the prop and jet wash blowing the gravel into a hump. Unless the river is pretty full it is a boat out of pickup bed or canoe/kayak launch. I agree the ten buck launch fee is a tad high but so is everything else right now.
  23. Not like I used to. Tired of the people so I go farther downstream in a boat and sometimes never see another soul :). I have caught a ton of fish there though. Started fishing there over 45 years ago.
  24. Yes, sir and live just long enough to make my son miserable!🤪
  25. Oh boy the devil's right hand!
