  5. They are cool. Red fox and grays for that matter are loosing territory because of coyotes. They will kill them if able. Could be why people see so many in urban areas.
  6. Gray Fox! I'm with John, I like them. Trapped a few back in the day and yes seen one climb a tree. Grays like thick brush and timber where the Red's favor more open areas. Gray foxes are more catlike and would try to get you when trapped. Did not stop me I would wade right in and catch them. Somewhere I have a picture my dad took of me holding one when he went with me one day. Turned one loose while in Texas hunting Jalevina. It was in a foot hold. I was with a group of friends on that hunt. I felt pretty sorry for it. Texas is like another country and trapping is different. You don't have to run traps as often as here. That and for nuisance animals they use cyanide cannons. We were in way south Texas and seen signage saying they were in use in the area. Written in English and Spanish. For those of you who don't know here it is, M44 (cyanide device) - Wikipedia Ok back to the release of the gray fox. We were driving along when I first seen the Christmas ornaments and flashy garland hanging from some brush. Then the fox nearby caught in the trap. Being catlike it likes flashy moving stuff. I asked the guys to stop, and I grabbed some leather gloves. They ask what I was going to do. I said let it go, and they all freaked like I was going to get eaten alive. I got right in there and caught the fox, holding it I said one of you come over here and get the trap springs compressed and off. This even took some convincing. Finally, one did and off went the fox. This was 15 to 20 years ago One of the guys videoed it. John Sturdavant where are you know? From Iowa. He sent us all a copy and whis I knew where it was now. Great memory thanks @Dutch for this post and trip down memory lane.
  7. Yes we did and was good to see you again David. Wish we'd had a bit more time. Almost three hours home and that wind beat us up all day. We were pooped by the time we got home.

  10. David, Do yourself a favor and get this book. Keeping Bees With a Smile | Natural Beekeeping | Horizontal Hives Some reading before you decide what hive to choose. This is what we are doing. Listen to @jdmidwest when he talks about the Langsdorf hives also if you are serious about getting into beekeeping. You told me also that your son was interested in beekeeping. At your age and your health status take him on as a partner for the heavy stuff, you be the Forman on the job. There is commitment in the hobby for the keeper. Less with the Layens hive but still some hands-on stuff. At the top of the link are plans for the long hives. Look at this also. Hives of any type like everything else is getting expensive to buy and make. I built all our hives but both hives I use and the ones Jdmidwest uses can be made much cheaper.

  22. MISSOURI ANGLER CATCHES STATE-RECORD FISH IN STOCKTON LAKE Date: October 18, 2024, 2:33 pm A Missouri angler accidentally caught a Missouri-state-record fish out of an area lake Sunday, October 13th. According to a news release from the Missouri Department of Conservation, Ryan Young of Buffalo caught a 55-pound, nine ounce black buffalo out of Stockton Lake with a rod-and-reel. With the catch, Young broke the previous record of 53 pounds, which was held since 1989. Young was going for crappie in Stockton Lake with a group who had nicknamed him "The Trashman," as he was catching everything besides crappie. Once Young hooked into the black buffalo, it took around thirty minutes and three men to get the fish into the boat. Black buffalo are considered sucker fish, similar to carp, who live on the bottom of bodies of water. It is the fifth state-record fish recorded in 2024. Copyright 2024 Harbit Communications Inc. 23. Very good Testament to the product Dutch. I may need to get some for my conventional tackle.
  24. Two songs, two reasons, One thing led to another while shooting air rifles with my Uncle John again today. We created a tomato massacre shooting. Video attached, https://1drv.ms/v/s!ArqCewEjZn9UgrR2b4hYaIweGCNu9A?e=rxNvG4 So, as I looked at the carnage it brought a song to mind. The Tomato Vendetta by Mason Williams. This got me to thinking about my dad Charles Henry Horn. He bought this album because of one song again by Mason Williams. "Classical Gas" Well I fell in love with this song also as a young person. The tomato Vendetta was also on this Album titled Mason Williams Hand Made. Funny how something you see can snowball into a memory that means so much. Thanks dad I really miss you and how you shaped and molded me. Classical Gas, Tomato Vendetta
