    Bingo!
  2. Agree with this 100 percent. On our horizontal hives it's really easy.
  3. Yes, and JD you are the kind a keeper I am striving to be. We want strong bees. Treating bees for mites actually make the mite stronger if they survive. Through genetics and not treating by letting the bees be bees could a mite resistant bee be a thing in the future. There are people out there claiming and selling queens claiming they are mite resistant. What do you think? I already have one hive that was a new colony this spring. Strong colony that produced a bunch of stores this season. When I got them ready for winter, they looked good. Robbing started and I found them weak when I checked. Enough they were a loss. Warmer days like yesterday I noticed a fury of robbers and I let them rob. Right or wrong it will make those other hives stronger for winter.
  4. Or a strait jacket and restraints :).
  5. I don't and I know another that doesn't. I only harvest once a year in the fall. I take only the extra. Leaving plenty for the colony to winter on. If you buy local ask questions.
  6. Please buy local when you can, It just isn't China either. Some honey harvesters are not exactually honest. Feeding sugar is not good for bees and real honey. Many keepers will overharvest during the summer and have to feed bees during the Fall so the bees can make what they think is honey to live off of during the winter. It gets harvested also at one time or another. It has been said you can add food coloring to that sugar water, and it will color what the bees store in the comb. 7. Great report, nice photos. Thanks a bunch John for taking us along on the trip.
  8. Oh yea it was cold! I remember one frigid jig fest and boats were frozen on trailers, frozen steering and throttle cables too. @Daryk Campbell Sr was out there!
  9. That there is some real self control.
  10. Thats a good deal and I thought my bride did a lot. Actually, she does more than her fair share.
  11. This just proves peeping Tom's or peeking Pete's look in windows and out New age Tom's and Pete's use blinks.
  12. Yep, time to revisit!
  13. Face it we all have an expiration date. Just like old vehicles replacement parts are still available but once the body begins to rust out even Bondo isn't enough. Hang in there Rick still time to stir things up.
  14. Well David I think you are pretty fortunate she still takes you to the river to fish and not just push you in. She also drove you to our campsite for a visit. I will try to say bee spit instead of honey next time.
  15. I concur, there has been two seasons on the Thanksgiving opener in South zone all small bodies of water were locked up. Northern parts of the South zone. 23 here this morning but got to 55 this afternoon. Looking at the seven day forecast. 18 Saturday night and 16 Sunday night.
  16. I have done the rotator many, many years ago and healed. Surgeon told me then arthritis was already forming. Well, what he said is true. I have not been able to lift the lower arm above my shoulder for years. I need to replace the shoulder joint. I can function ok except for both arms overhead. Pat is the second hand for that. Might get the replacement someday. Take each day one at a time. Good luck whatever you decide.
  17. How Mountain Lions Are Actively Choosing to Coexist and Adapt to Human Activity
  18. Personally, I think it is a shame it was killed and paraded on Facebook like it was. Let's get things in perspective. Can anybody tell me when was the last time a mountain lion attacked a person in Missouri? Looking at the population of people in the state. Yes, I know the lions are in rural areas with low populations. So are rural roads in our state yet people are killed daily from drunk, distracted and head up their rear drivers. Next, we have daily shootings in the hood and other places in the state. Self-inflicted deaths by unhealthy habits thinking they are bulletproof and hardheaded. There is more to worry about out there.
  19. Great job all the way around Mr. Pitt!
  20. It's all that honey helping you out 🤣
  21. Our South zone has not even started yet.
  22. Rick, How could you tell it was grizzly? Smell or taste test. Size of pile or did it have some of those little pin on bells that are sold to tourists and hikers in grizzly country? Asking for a friend thanks.
