fishinwrench Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Hmmm, I sure didn't know they were illegal in MO. The "authorities" themselves used one on Salt river at one time. They were checking frog giggers in it one night, which we thought was comical because you could hear them coming from 2 miles away. Our fire dept. Purchased a hover craft last year, can't imagine much difference in the environmental impact and noise between it and a airboat. It's just a horizontal helicopter. Same emissions too.
Champ188 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Was talking to one of the guys at the gas station from Louisiana. He said he can kill a thousand pounds a night, every night there. He said this was hard. Those boys spent a bunch of money here. We appreciate it. They did not hurt a thing. What Bill said.
JohnP Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 If it was during the day or atleast ended before 11pm you wouldn't hear near as many complaints.
FRENZEL Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 It was one night .. Maybe a few prefished.. The waters of LOZ sound like that for 4 months 24/7. I enjoyed the idea. What kind of emissions do they dump as a weekend hobby compared to the average diesel rig driven on a daily basis or a huge SUV driven 30,000 plus miles a year. NO HARM seen here. skeeter Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 According to Coast Guard rules and regulations governing inland waters, a boat can display any lights as long as they do not interfere with the ability of the posted look out to see. The red and green side lights and all around white light is a minimum requirement for all boats 7 meters or less while under way or making way.According to 306.100 sub section 16, auxiliary lighting is OK while fishing but not while underway. These boats NEVER shut those high powered lights off in my area, they must not have an off switch. Both our local State Rep. and the MO Highway Patrol, Water Division, are terming this tournament a real "hot button" issue and they received a large number of complaints from area residents about the two-night-long audible and visual peace disturbance. So there were plenty of area residents upset with the operation of these boats. But what the heck, somebody made a few bucks so screw everybody else...right ? And no, Frenzel, it wasn't limited to just one night so obviously you weren't being awakened every ten-fifteen minutes from dusk to dawn two nights in a row. The large V-8's powering most of the Airboats were never shut down either and I wondered how they were "sneaking" up on fish while cruising shorelines, points and bays. Those carp must be deaf...and dumb !

Those carp must be deaf...and dumb ! Lets relax. It was one weekend out of the year and there are 51 more weekends to enjoy. It no doubt generated a ton of money into the local economy. Sure it was a nuisance but it wasn't that bad. Like someone else said LOZ is like that all summer long so be grateful for the peace and quiet you have 95% of the year.
Sore Thumbs Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Bull Shoals would be a great place for that event. Not near as many people live on the that lake.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I thought some of the complaints on TV were humorous, you would have thought the people lived in a gated community rather than a public lake. After all some said they were used to hearing bass boats during the summer at night and I'm thinking that was waking them also, but hubby probably fishes so it's OK. The carp are in the shallows it appears and getting the spawn on so I'm sure that helped the total. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Champ188 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Sore Thumbs might have an idea provided there is adequate lodging in that area.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Its just a sport that goes along with living on the lake. There are plenty of private lakes out there to live on. I dont live on the Lake but my brother used to have a Sailboat in K-City and nothing made me happier then when i was woke up by 50 bass boats at 6 am with the sweet smell of two stroke exhaust before they took off for a tourney.
