Big fan of tournament fishing whether its the weekend guy or the Elite pro. If you threw out Van Dam and Clunn who would be in your top 3 all time. I got thinking about this because of all this talk lately about quarterbacks, Mannings legacy if he loses, who's the best etc.

O son its a giant along with Bill Dance and Denny B. I like these guys because they caught them before all the modern equipment came along.

Lilley, Fishin Wrench, and Al. I would put them against most anyone else if the competition was within their element. As for as "Pro's", without consideration to time, Glenn Andrews, Dance and Roland. KVD would be a distant 4th.

KVD a distant 4th...that's a riot. I know there are KVD butt kissers galore out there but for good reason. While I have respect for the early competitors of BASS and tournaments of the like in the 60's, 70's, 80's and even maybe 90's are nothing like it is now. The level of competition has gotten so high it is WAYYYY harder to win consistently now that it was in the earlier era's. KVD day in and day out is as tough as they come. He is the Tiger Woods of fishing....you never count him out and he is usually the odds on favorite to win going in no matter what lake or conditions. The others mentioned (and others that will be mentioned after my reply as well) are very good and there is something to be said for longevity in any sport....but KVD as of right now is the best there is and probably the best their has ever been to date. His tournament record speaks for itself.

I actually don't like bass fishing much except in streams. But thanks for the mention.

I'd just love to fish with the aforementioned... minus the real pros.

Dance kind of gave up on the dance, and sold his self out. I don't think I would put him in there. Roland Martin I believe won a derby at 55 yrs. old and that says a ton. Hank Parker and Jimmy Houston were both good, but would not adapt, they are power fisherman.

I will tell you there are multi species fishermen out there that are without a doubt better all arounders than some of the derby winners. Guys that can throw a fly 150 ft. with 6X. Read a locater and catch fish on a baitcaster fish the salt and pretty much do it all. We will not hear of those guys.
