Awesome project! I'd love to plant some chestnuts on our property someday. They sure have a sad but interesting story.

My friend has planted chestnuts on his property. I don't think that they look as good as yours do BH. Do you know if they will still have nuts in Oct/Nov? I may be up on his farm around that time and would like to check them out. Planted them for deer mast.

   Actually John this will be my first nut crop. I will keep posting the results. Plus I will ask my buddy up by St. Louis when he gets his.

Was up at a pick your own apple orchard this weekend and came across this tree on their property. If I hadn't seen you posts, never would have known what kind of tree I was seeing.

Of course I was going to make some comment about you not having nut envy, but decided to stay adult on this post. This was the only chestnut that I saw.

Yep. Mine are still in that color phase. I am so excited for my nuts to turn brown, crack open and begin to fall off THE TREE LIMBS,

Well I'm glad to hear that you weren't getting excited for your nuts to drop. Seems like that should have happened some time ago .

    Well my spiky nut husks are starting to crack open revealing the chestnuts that have been growing inside all summer! Man I feel like a new dad with my first child being born. If some critter doesn't get them before me I will have many offspring .

   Got to make contact with my buddy who provided my seeds to start these trees for his opinion. Should I snip off all of these and bring them in before the nuts fall out?

Is this a true chestnut or a variation of them?  I have been looking into the  chinquapin to plant on my property, but they are very intensive to grow.
