Members jimithyashford Posted September 1, 2014 Author Members Posted September 1, 2014 I can't tell who the troll is? The person saying some people's aren't meant to fish? I don't really buy that. I'm sure a bass can't the who is on the other end of a crankbait diving in front of their face. And yeah! very funny on the "getting off cheap" when I pay by the pound. I don't really wanna go to some private place where they practically put the fish on the hook for you. I would much rather go out to a lake or river and catch fish out of the natural population. I'm not averse to effort, I've spent a lot of hours bushwhacking and wading. I used to think that I just wasn't about to find fish, and that was the problem, but seeing my bait roll off the tip of a trout's nose as he ignores it tells me that's not neccesarily the case.
moguy1973 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Someone at the bait shop recomended lighter line to me. I didn't have any lighter line to switch out to, but I am 100% sure I saw people catching trout on fly fishing rigs with these big ultra-heavy ultra-visible orange and neon-green lines. I know they have a short header of a much thinner line, but still, Trout didn't seem to be too picky about biting at flies with a shoe-string of a line comming right up to within a foot of the fly. Wow. I just don't know what to say about this. Royal Blue 1 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Haris122 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I've felt much the same with trout. I've been at Meramec Springs a number of times where I barely caught 1 of them even though I'd be there 6 hours or so. Same thing at Taneycomo, where I caught one within a full 3 hours of wade fishing in the trophy area. I've often felt the desire to jump into the water and just punch them in their face, or choke them while angrily shaking them and asking why they don't take my lure/bait/whatever. I can't tell you exactly what the trick is as I still have a real hard time getting them to bite, but I will say lighter line is one of ingredients as I have had a bit more luck with 4 pound line on an ultralight compared to 6,8,or 10 on a medium. Aside from that I don't how to help you. But believe me, I've gotten skunked time after time after time, as many times and possibly more as you have. At one point I went several months without catching a single fish. You're not alone. All I can tell you is, it will get better as long as you keep trying, and don't let the feeling that you won't yet again catch anything, constantly hang over your thoughts while fishing. You have to have a clear mind about it dude. Observe and try to think of something that might work. Switch things up, but also give your current set-up time to be thoroughly tried before moving on to something else. Eventually things will work out.
moguy1973 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 You should try Montauk. I've caught 50+ fish in a day there before. oneshot Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I was fishing where the Spring came into the river with Bait nothing. Guy came up with a Brass Lure caught couple right off the bat, I throw Brass Lure same. Had this happen several times just matter of what they want. oneshot
Mitch f Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Use a small jerk bait in silver color and twitch it fast, you can usually catch a few on it at the trout parks. Try the rapala ultralight minnow or Yozuri Pins minnow in the smaller size. Use 4 lb line "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Jerry Rapp Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Contact Jerry Rapp, he is an expert in rainbarrel fishing techniques. He addressed this subject just a couple of weeks ago on this very topic. Put and take fishing is what it is. Hide behind a user name and not use your real name to bash someone else is another issue. I hope Phil takes note. As for the original question, use 1lb fouro carbon or clear sewing thread that you can get at Walmart. Set your drag as loose as possible. Micro lite rod/reel.
