dtrs5kprs Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I try to stay aware that I "live in a glass house and have no business throwing stones" but some of the self-important clowns I have seen on this lake really give you tournament guys a bad rep. I'm talking about when some hot shot runs in, comes off plane 10 feet from our boat to jump in front of us on a point, only to explain that he is "in a tournament", as he makes a half dozen casts and then races off. On the other hand, the guys who really are proffesional seem to be just the opposite. Lily and I were catching fish near point 16 last year when a pro in a wrapped boat and jersey idled up, shut down and politely asked if he could fish about 50 yards from us. He said he had some luck in that spot the previous day but was happy to go elsewhere if it bothered us. Of course we agreed and though we pulled our lines out of the water and backed off we stayed near enough for him to explain in detail what he was doing and why. The man was competing for a check, with some class, and doing a commercial for a couple sponsors at the same time. Exactly. I like to fish a particular little cut near Kimberling that often has wrapped boats in it, including guys filming for the Bass Pros. Have not had issue one with any of them, and am always quick to make sure I am not a problem for them either. Guys cutting each other's throat for a $100 pot on the other hand...
Iclass Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 gang thugs no. But a wearing your hat sideways and wearing your homemade fishing jersey to the 10 boat wed. night local bass tournament are kinda the same.....general douchebaggery general douchbaggery?... Like holding a grudge on a coach that hasn't coached your team for 3 years? Or blasting some guy that disagrees with paying big $$ for custom lures or paint jobs? Or classifying all the fishing jersey wearers as goobers? I've had old men pull in and throw across my line, had wrapped boats pull in on top of my fishing spot, but I've encountered MANY more people that were just as respectful as most of us try to be. Table Rock is a big lake, if some one encroaches on me I usually just go somewhere else. It's not worth getting mad about, especially since I had a friend get shot a few years back near Hot Springs. He's lucky to be alive, all over a fishing spot. I just think it's stupid to place a "tag" on someone just because they wear a particular shirt.
Feathers and Fins Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Still not getting the point. My opinions come from dealing with these people not just looking at them. Jason, like I said in my first post if you have been a duck hunter you have seen it worse than the fishing world has it. They call them "prostaffers" I want to know how some 16 to 22 year old kid is a "pro-anything" They wear the hoodies and hats and trailers or boats with more decals than one would thing is possible. I have had to run them off private property and had them set-up well within 100 yards of me and even set-up in a position to try and pass shoot birds working my decoys. Like I said in my first post it is about their Actions and Attitudes. People fishing or hunting think because they have the Jerseys or some company makes them a prostaffer they are the end all be all best there is and everyone else must respect them. I don't care about jerseys, hoodies, beanies or stickers though when I see one I have to wonder is this person going to have the "prostaffer" mentality. There is a couple old-birds who fish Beaver that would put any of the wrapped boats to shame and when I see them I go talk to them each time and each and every time I learn something and get more laughs and education than you could imagine. They do have a sticker on the boat but its not fit for saying here though ( picture grumpy old man movie ). Unfortunately we have to put up with these people but not only do we see these people in our sports but there are people wearing fake military uniforms also. I do not know the reason people have to do these things but I can only assume its the same reason some people wear big belt buckles or drive corvettes https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Old plug Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 To me all these shirts and whatever are all about advertising products you may not even believe in. That points to some kind of moral failure that is deaply inveded in our society.
Quillback Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Seems like we have to have one of these "airing of grievances" threads about twice a year. I'm surprised it has gone this far without someone mentioning jet skis, wake boats and the like.
Members oldasdirt Posted January 11, 2015 Members Posted January 11, 2015 I've been reading this post and I'm not sure if it's a venting post a fishing post or slam the guys who either or trying to make a living in a sport. Or perhaps just about guys who have been blessed with a logo hat or hoodie as a expression of product loyalty. Me I fished the back of the boat flw no way do I want to be a real pro to try to make a living for my family. It's a real job. Local fishing is one thing go drive a thousand miles sleep in a tent or truck camper try to always have a smile and represent ur sponsors to tough for this old man. Wrapped boat it's like a sign come visit with me and let's talk fishing 24/7 or products. I've been involved in issues on the water with these guys. Guess what they all did the right thing. No matter who was the problem. To many eyes so they did the right thing. Sure there's bad apples but it not because they wear a logo. Life is to short to sweat the small stuff count your blessing that u or blessed to get out on the water and safely return to shore. Went to the boat show in Springfield. Lots of logo shirts guides company's and both tournament fishing guys and lots of just guys wearing there logo shirts and hats. In my eyes it fit the occasion. Wannabe nope if I found a logo shirt to fit my big butt sure I would wear it if it fit the occasion why not. Do I have a 80 mph bass boat no way they ride rough and way to scary for me. In a flw boat I just pray and hold on. The experience I've had have been spectacular out of the back but I went for the experience not to make money to make a boat payment or pay for all the rest of the trip expenses. Now it makes no difference if it's nascar flw or anything else sure there's a few wannabes but most or just good old boys or women enjoying a activity be it fishing or anything else. Take a kid fishing who knows he or she may be the next winner of the flw or bass master championship. If I stepped on a toe I'm sorry just count it as a senior moment. Thanks to all the post and posters good reading.

jmes Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Just thought I would share some information, On the FLW, I'm fishing the Central Elte Pro Circuit put on by Webb Outdoors and the majority of the sponsor's that has been mentioned had already pulled out of the FLW. Some of the Hibdon family was there and fished in the tournament. They were there telling people then that Chevrolet pulled from the FLW Series,, as well as other big sponsors. That tournament was November 22,23 2014
Terrierman Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I just think it would be awesome if Congress Critters would go the sponsorship jersey route and start using wraps on their escalades. And I mean AWESOME. grizwilson and ness 2

Just for that, I am getting a wave runner, painting it orange, and towing alongside the Beast next time I am out - while wearing my jersey :-) rangerman 1
