BilletHead Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Salad its what's for dinner, After eating so much meat this weekend we decided to do a salad this evening. I sliced up a lb. of bacon and did bacon bits. Lots of extra for later on. Then I got a wild hair and decided to make croutons. Sourdough croutons at that. Cut up the sliced bread in strips and then cut those strips again in to 1/2 cubes. Melted some butter and added garlic powder and minced garlic. Mixed that all up tossed in the sourdough bread and tossed to coat all. Into a skillet and 350 degree oven for 15 minutes then stirred and back in for another 15 then checked. Needed a bit more so stirred and let got for another 10. Out and yes it worked great, When Pat left work she gives me a call. This was the signal to go to garden and pick baby bok choy. Dang I like this stuff. Brought in, trimmed up and washed, Pat attacked the bok and soon we had a salad. Included halved cherry tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese and of course the bacon bits and sourdough croutons. Then blue cheese dressing and fresh ground course black pepper. There is a whole raised bed full of good stuff. We are going on a salad binge! ness, Johnsfolly, Mitch f and 1 other 4 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" ness Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 @BilletHead Do you guys eat the white stems raw? I've never grown Boy Choi but got it a couple times when I belonged to a CSA a couple years ago. I always did a quick stir fry and liked it. Never crossed my mind to grow though. Might throw some in after the early lettuce comes out. If I can get some seeds. All the online places I've looked at the last couple weeks are backed up and not taking orders. Anyhoo -- tonight it was a new recipe for us. Kathy's had a hankerin' for a chicken, pasta and artichoke heart dish. Found one she liked and whipped it up tonight. Pretty good, but we'll make some tweaks next time. Grilled chicken, artichoke hearts, ness-dried tomatoes from last summer, heavy cream and parmesan cheese. This was the first time we've used the our own dried tomatoes, and they were delicious. Thanks for the idea and tutelage, @BilletHead ! We're gonna double them up in the recipe next time. Big bursts of tomato flavor. It was our favorite part of the dish. MOPanfisher, BilletHead, N9BOW and 2 others 5 John

I should of got it in earlier. If you find some seed let me know where. I want to do a fall crop :). Glad you liked the dried tomatoes. I wish everyone had a place and time for a garden. I know most don't but the flavor of homegrown and just the grower touching it. Ness you should google up a sun dried tomato soup and use some for that. I should have noted that this was not normal, it was a pre fishing trip snack. Friend loaded me up for a quick trip. Wasn't easy with my right wing in a sling, but did manage to catch four nice crappie for him to take home, every time it send shooting pains up my arm/shoulder but it was also the last time that piece of arm and shoulder will ever go fishing. Later this week a few inches of humerus and my shoulder joint get a full reverse replacement. So it was a good evening, I will be thinking of the "thump" as I slide into unconsciousness. At least that is my plan, will also be thing of all the dan delicious stuff you guys keep posting and me putting up pics of cheese whiiz and venereal sausages. LOL. ness 1
