mojorig Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 We weighed that fish on Friday night at the Agfc office in Mountain Home. The fish was caught on an artificial lure from the bank by a gentleman that was fishing for trout for the first or second time in his life. He was not on a guide trip. ollie, Ham, TheRustyHook and 3 others 6 Jeremy Risley District Fisheries Supervisor AGFC Mountain Home Office - 1-877-425-7577 Email: Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov
Greasy B Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 What a fish, what a river. , congratulations. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Ham Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 That is AMAZING information JR. I struggle to understand how he got that fish to bite and was able to handle it on the rod and reel he would have been using. Crazy, crazy things do happen though. Quillback Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Funny how some of the giant browns fall to someone who is not targeting them. I believe the previous world record (before that Great lakes tributary brown) that was caught in AR came on a Velveeta cheese ball. I believe the current WR brown was caught by someone targeting salmon.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 1, 2015 Root Admin Posted March 1, 2015 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rainbow-Drive-Resort/103943397446 More pics. I posted on one pic: Slim chance a brown trout like this could be released <successfully> even after careful handling and immediate release. It looks like it's full of rainbow trout, either whole fish or guts - or both. It could not have chase anything down and by the looks of its belly, it's had ALOT to eat. So fight a fish like this to the bank and it's dead, like it or not. It's at the end of it's lifespan too. Congrats on the catch! Deadstream and Fly_Guy 2
PigSooner Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 WOW... Just "slightly" bigger than the ones I caught this morning, ha!
Members Kcdangler Posted March 2, 2015 Members Posted March 2, 2015 Congrats what a fish I would have kept it too fish of a lifetime and the fish Rip Collins caught on Little Red in 92 was40 pounds 4 oz was caught on a black crappie jig.
Old plug Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 You all seem to have the impression it was a total fluke. I did not see any post describing him as a beginner, or catching something he was not targeting. How do you know it was just a lucky fluke. I just have a notion he may very well knew exactly what he was doing. I just wonder if maybe he fishes for larger Trout. He might just well have a system there. I did see a post that said it was caught on a plastic worm. I can just picture him standing there casting that worm up stream and just letting it roll natural over thee bottom and drop off into that hole. I would not be surprised if the plastic worm was at least 7 inches long either. I am not saying he targeted this fish. But if he targets large trout anything can happen when that worm or jig drops off into that hole.
