Big M area report

Well after reading Bill's report, I know what I did wrong. Should've fished deep trees all day, I did for part of the day and caught all of the 8 bass that I caught around trees, 15-30 feet deep. I thought I might find some fish moving into pre-spawn holding areas, and fished quite a few of that kind of structure, but never got a bite on the pre-spawn stuff.

The fish I caught all came on the Ned, I briefly threw a float and fly and a Menace grub, but no bites on either of those.

Got checked by the MDC wardens on the water today - that was a first. They were courteous and friendly, checked my license, wished me good luck, and they were off and on their way.

Water temps were anywhere from 43-46.

No doubt it's nice to hear they're checking people. Thanks for the report and the pictures quilback. I keep seeing everyone on here promote the ned rig i guess im going to have to break down and give it a try.

quillback,the pre spawn stuff were you up the river, creeks or main lake?

i'm not famaliar with the BIgM area but I'd think you'd need to be where the water warms first there. Found 54 degree Wt on BS yesterday in the North East corners creeks/coves of the lake where it warms quickly before the deeper mid/main lake. I'd look offshore near migratory routes w/ a susp. jb. for susp. fish in the 5-12' zone.

It's been a crazy week on BS. They have been all over the place this month,a lot of guys I know are struggling to get bit, but I've still managed to catch close to 100 largemouth and spots over the past few weeks. What really helps me is to look and search w/ the finder before I even wet a hook. Spend the time to find them first. I would have never fished where I found them yesterday eve had I not seen them on the screen first.

Ive been checked several times over the years at table rock. Usually fishing the hwy 13 bridge, but ive also been checked in schooner creek and that long runnout point adjacent to it (pt seven maybe?) in kimberling city. They have always been curteous and friendly to me, even that time we had a cooler full of 12" bass! haha, jk. As much as ive been on stockton ive yet to be checked there, wonder whats up with that? Thanks for the report, seems like a great day on the water.

Good stuff Quill. I was wondering about fishing the little guy down there in those tops instead of a grub or swimmer. Mainly thought it might come through better.

They will get where we want them soon, and where we can see them sooner than I would prefer.

Have had some folks send reports of catching them shallower on transitions in the creeks, but I think those are probably resident fish not stagers or fish bunched up. Size has been pretty good on some of those fish. That is from 13 east, more or less.

Have been creel surveyed a lot, but only checked once. That was at Baxter, back in Little Indian. There were tmt boats everywhere that day.

I agree with you Champ, Quill picked a perfect day for this little derby. You got some rain on Friday, Saturday morning overcast and mild. Someone is gonna run into a pig.
