joeD Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Dunkirk is magical moviemaking, where the effort and skill of the movie makers IS the story. Reverential WWII stories just make my eyes and heart glaze over now. I like filmmakers who take on the muddled mess of our current society. Check out Sidney Lumet's "Before the Devil Knows Your Dead."
ness Posted August 19, 2017 Author Posted August 19, 2017 I get that, kinda. As I think about it, I had expectations going in to this movie and was really disappointed at the result. Might be able to enjoy it if I watched it a second time. John
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 I don't watch many movies but last night I watched "all the pretty horses". Because it was the outdoor channel and that's all I usually watch Pretty good although a little slow but I had the pleasure FF through commercials.
Quillback Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 I have read the book, but have not seen the movie. Cormac McCarthey who also wrote 'No country for old men' and 'The Road' was the author. My personal preference as far as the books would be for those two ahead of 'All the pretty horses.'.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 I thought it was going to be a chick flick and was prepared to fall asleep but it was pretty good.

snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 The only movies I've been to a theater for are the star wars movies. My wife loves them so I go. BilletHead 1

snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 I actually think they are pretty good movies. I'm not a movie buff even though my wife works for a cable company and we get everything they offer for $17 per month including out internet access. That includes pay per view. The force is with us on OA! BilletHead 1
Johnsfolly Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 There are just some movies that need to be seen in the theater. Star Wars movies are definites. With the throwback soundtrack and kitschy dialog we actually enjoyed the guardians movies. Though the second drug along at times. Horror movies are always good in the theater but my wife won't go with me. Last one I saw was Lights Out and I went with Livie. Mitch f 1
