You know the more I read this it makes me want to post,

Do what you want and spend what you want on your cooler or anything else in life you want. I have two Yeti coolers and like them very much. I don't have the top of the line electronics in my boat. Don't have the best shotguns or bazillion duck and goose decoys or Custom painted warts of all colors. Live in the country and not on a lake lot. Life is choices made by us or someone else at times. I think Wrench said it best get one if you want to as they are nice. Like Ham said in the right conditions they can and I have had ice form in the drinks I have had in there. Here is a place you can save some bucks on your cooler or anything else you might want and not necessary need. Sign up for Austin canoe and kayak newsletter. http://www.austinkayak.com/ Just by signing up you can get a 15% discount on an item and I got my coolers shipped for free. It pays to shop around. Are the coolers high priced? Yes Are they more than we need? Yes but so are much more things in life. We all have stuff we don't need. Stop and take inventory sometime.

This reminds me I still need to get some Ozarkanglers stickers to put on my coolers :)

Here is my deal with coolers, If your going for a day trip and not leaving the area of your car/truck then get a http://www.igloocoolers.com/Thermoelectric/All-Thermoelectric/Iceless-40-With-110V-Converter plug it in and its cold all day and for about 100 bucks beats any cooler out there.

If you are going on a Weekend trip (SIZE) matters as you can only take so much and a 40qt to 152qt depending on space and people with a couple blocks of dry-ice will work perfectly fine just like they have for decades.

What Yeti has done is make a "NAME" for themselves as a status symbol just like NIKE did or any other manufacture and they charge for the NAME. Because they know people will want to have the "Status Symbol" to show off.

Do yourselves a favor, Buy a Igloo or coleman for a 1/4 the cost and spend the rest on the stuff to go in it.

I have one of those drawing dust in the shed. I used to use it in the popup when I was camping as a fridge. It worked well when I had 110 available and an inverter. I could put stuff in it and not worry about it floating around in water. I left it plugged into the truck one day and it sucked the life out of my battery. I had to wait for a jump.

All I want to say is from my experience with a yeti. My family just went on a 9-day tour de Missouri and hit KC, St.Louis, and Branson before coming home. A cooler with snacks and drinks is a must with three under 5 yrs old traveling and two bags of ice was all it took for the 9 day trip.

I settled on a Pelican, based on reviews and also because a standard steam table pan will sit on a ledge in the cooler to keep meat, cheese etc. above the ice. One will probably do me for the time being though.:)

Always buy 2, just in case you like it and it fails, you will have a backup.

Good plan. One for the front of the boat, one for the back.
