Release more crappie with eggs!

I was not going to comment on this but why are some of you so gung ho about keeping bass? Obviously most of the guys on here are catch and release and you come blabbing about how you keep bass when you can and it is no big deal. Well it is a big deal to me, especially when this is such a good resource and some of the members post great information and give you specific ways to catch them. I wouldn't broadcast if you like frying bass all over the forum like some have either. You are just cooking you own goose and reports will be left out. You want to keep a few bass every now and then, and when I say a few I don't mean a whole limit. That is fine and your choice and right. I personally never keep any because there is better fish to eat. I would like to say a lot of other things but I'm going to bite my tongue and hope things go back to normal around here. If you keep bass don't broadcast all over the forum or you will never see reports on here and the catch and release guys won't have to think about you taking a knife to a fish before they post a report.

Alex posts some of the best big fish info on this site every spring. The man catches good ones.

I hope some of the comments have been interweb shenanigans, but am all too afraid folks are reflecting their real behavior. Shame to treat a great lake like it is an overpopulated farm pond.

These reports might not be important to them but to me and I'm sure you. We look forward to getting on and readimg all the reports that these guys put together including yourself.

Unless you fish 1 of 5 spots in kimberling than your little lovelies are safe from me. Its a huge lake. Like ive said a million times you are all wrong. My family and I fish the same few spots every year since 1977 keep all the legal fish and guess what? Theyare still there. Just as many. Just as big. Riddle me this? What this has to do with is an irirrational emotional attachment to these fish for some reason. I have proof that what I do doesnt effect the fishery but thats still not enough. Im just an evil meat fisherman.

It was because I posted a picture of a northern that my boss ate. Reasonable folks huh?

C&r really came on strong in the 70s and through education and perseverance it finally took hold. We started seeing fisheries getting better and better, and knew it was from this practice. Maybe our generation has dropped the ball in teaching the younger generation? You don't hear it preached on fishing Comercial anymore or on fishing shows,although it's is shown by the anglers that on the shows. I guess they to are of the mindset that c and r is the norm now. I too remember in my youth being all full of testostarone bringing home a stringer of fish (all species ) and banging my fists against my chest while proudly proclaiming, me man, feed my family! When in fact I did them a diservice spending money for fishing instead of paying a bill or put that money to better use by buying a weeks worth of groceries. Some people talk about how great table rock was in the 60 and 70s. Ha. It's a million times better now than then due to C and R.

I blame most of it on social media. Everybody feels a need I guess to show everyone else what great fisherman they are. And I think it proves more of this was happening than we thought.

I do have to, with the utmost respect, disagree with the premise that TR is a million times better now. As far as crappie are concerned anyway.

There was by far better quality crappie coming out of there back then. Limits of 30 fish all easily exceeding 1 pound was the norm. Lots and lots of 1.5 - 2 pound were taken daily every spring. Nobody every kept a fish under 12 inches. You didn't have too.

But things changed.

There is a ton of truth in this. I guess I live in a blissful ignorance telling myself that ALL the fish I release survived. Part of me knows that this is not true, but I'm happy that I don't know how many actually die.
