ollie Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Found out today from my wife that yet another person has drowned on the Elk. This time it was a 24 year old man who decided that his friend and him should walk out over the dam in Noel and jump off of it downstream. One made it out and the other when they were able to get him was already a goner. Bystanders tried CPR and he was pronounced dead before he got to the hospital. This will make the 3rd drowning in only 2-3 months down there. That is INSANE! How many other rivers in this state claim that many in such a short amount of time? This happened just Friday night as well. Last week it was the little girl and that happened only a mile downstream from this one. The other one was the kid from Kansas and I don't know the details on that one. People, be safe out there please and if you see someone who needs help don't hesitate to help out if you can. Gavin Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Sad. We always have PFD's on our kids and pay attention. As a pool owner and aquaholic, you need to watch always. Drowning is Silent. Folks just go under and you won't hear anything. Usually hire one of the swim instructors at the local college to life guard when we have a pool party. trythisonemv 1

MOPanfisher Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Always a bad deal when someone drowns. It does seem like the Elk has been the hot spot for it this year though.
jtram Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Goodness, sad deal regardless of circumstances. I hate dams.
rps Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Simple solution, ban idiots from the Elk River. The tourism trade would dry up. Not funny, just true. trythisonemv 1
ollie Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Yea Jerry, I would like to ban ALL idiots from all the creeks, but you know that won't happen anytime soon. That river is just plain crazy in the summertime and a lot of people on it don't have a clue to what they are doing. Sad deal. trythisonemv 1 "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Amery Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 So it's the idiots that are drowning. Let them drown. It's sad but the last one, jumping off the dam, that's just stupid.
Flysmallie Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Saying the guys that jumped off the dam drowned is like saying that some that was crushed to death while working under their car was killed in an auto accident.
ollie Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 I don't think I would go so far as to call to young kids idiots. The 24 year old maybe since there was probably drinking involved on that one, but to call a 12 year old an idiot because he wasn't trained well by whoever is a little harsh. Same with the little girl who slipped in and fell. Should she have been more careful - absolutely, but not an idiot. Those were little kids. I blame the adults on those.
