fishinwrench Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Wrench, Do you hear of 10 pounders caught at LOZ? Pete I hear of a couple each year, but I've never seen one. A verified 13 pounder is the biggest bass I've ever heard come from LO. and I think that waswas back in the '70's
Old plug Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I never really weigh fish here on LOZ. I measure them and that's it. I remember times when 18 inch fish were weighing. In a tournaments at 4lb and by the same token there are time when they weight 3lbs. At this point in my life I only have two measurement 15" is a keeper and 21 is hog. This year I am not seeing much of either.
Travis Swift Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I've always wondered. ...is there some giant bass in lower taneycomo eating trout like in California? Better question is why wouldn't there be? Some creeks down there are warm, plenty of vegetation and tons of small trout.
David Unnerstall Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I am setting my wife's booth at Ferguson Farmers Market later this month. After reading this on the bass in lakes stocked with trout.....I think I am headed up to January-Wabash, that morning. Greasy B 1
hoglaw Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 The My guess is, state wide, Missouri averages 5 10lb fish a year. That's purely pulled from my rear end. It may be that there are a few strictly managed private lakes that grow big fish and folks can catch them. The fish in my avatar was 10 pounds, 8oz. It's by far the biggest I've ever caught - from a farm pond on a frog. I've caught more 7's than I can count from a private lake I have access to, and couple that were 8. I have to think 10lb catches are exceedingly rare, particularly in Missouri. I'd think Georgia, Florida, Lousiana, Alabama, and Mississippi turn out quite a few 10's a year, as well as California.
Kee sims Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 No no good bass in lower taneycomo. Move along nothing to see there. lol there are definately some good sized bass in lower Taney I've had a few big fish that hit big swimbaits near areas where the warmer creeks meet the cold water.
Kee sims Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 There was supposedly a 12 and change taken in the mindenmine strip pits in pit 11. Dont know if it's truth or hear say.
Members cart7 Posted November 4, 2015 Members Posted November 4, 2015 Back in the late 70's, early 80's I figured Little Dixie lake, east of Columbia, was going to turn over the next State record. It had already turned over an 11lber. The lake was perfect for it back then. Not anymore. Much of the upper half of that lake has silted in. A group of us had a little informal bass tournament there around 6 years ago. The best fish caught that day was 8lbs, I had a 5 1/2 lber. IIRC, there was a 13 lber caught in a BASS tournament in the mid 80's on Truman. I recall it was like 10-12 ounces under the current state record. Most figured the bass was probably one of those that had been in the ponds the lake flooded. I've seen bass suspended under the docks during the spawning season at LOZ that could scare 10lbs so I wouldn't doubt a 10lber caught there.
fishinwrench Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 The number of 4 pounders caught in Lake O this year is inspiring. I have been catching one or two in that size range almost daily since Spring, and the BBB results turned up scads of them as well. In the next few years we should have ALOT more 6+ bass to play with. Not sure what happens after they hit 7 lbs. They either start dying off or their feeding habits change drastically. MOsmallies 1
