That theory has been shown to be 100% true.  My great aunt proved that when I was a small child.  My mom told me not to eat it because it had liquor in it.

Ahh, fruitcake gets a bum rap. Been hearing fruitcake jokes since Johnny Carson ruled the night. 

My dad used to get a fruitcake each holiday season -- can't remember from where -- and it was really, really good. It's why I struck out on the search a few years ago. 

I like what I'm making and a few others do too, so I share. There are also those that just don't care for it, and that's certainly ok. This is not a typical store bought fruitcake with candied fruit and such. 

I'm making a few extra this year because I ran out last year.

 I guess depending on the amount of liquid, after the 5 weeks til eating time, are they moist or dry tasting?

Cant remember the taste of fruit cake. Tho i had it when i was a kid, its not something that stuck with me, like that awful taste of liver/onions or that lamb chops on the buffet at the Vegas strip. "puke"

They are very moist at this point, and I’m actually worried I got a little heavy handed with the rum. Traditionally they’re sealed in tins and periodically get another dose of rum every month or so. I’ve got one that’s my tester. If I need to, I’ll unseal them and let them dry a bit.
