I have some nice bass located near a shallow rocky hump near a spring.  For the last couple days I have been getting them to bite a lipless crank using a lift & drop type retrieve, but now they are getting conditioned to that and won't bite it very well.    I need a suspending jerkbait that will go no deeper than 3'.    I tried heavy line on an rogue and a Husky jerk, but that still gets down too far.    They will body slam a fluke but I have to stay back and make long casts....can't detect the bites on the fluke.   And they won't come up and take a Spook for some reason.

Any ideas ?   Who makes the shallowest running jerkbait ?

Hang a trailer treble hook off the fluke.

Even if you don't detect it right away they usually stayed buttoned up.

Yep, these would be worth a shot, they also cast very well.  The Rapala Shallow Shadow Rap, is supposed to run 2 -4 feet.  I haven't fished them yet, but I have fished the deep version.  Not a lot of action on the deep version, but I have caught bass on it.

You're overthinking it.  Nightcrawler under a red-and-white plastic bobber and some split shot to sink it to the appropriate depth you are seeking.  Problem solved.

That hurt :(

The trailer on the fluke is a simple solution that slipped my mind. Thanks, Pete :)

I'll try the X-rap and Flash minnow too after I get my hands on them.  Thanks

I've got the older version myself, caught my biggest Brown trout to date on it. They have a tight roll and tremendous flash to them. The description is a close match to what Wrench wants.

fishinwrench,

damiki slim jack

MAX depth 16"

have you slow rolled a blade around that hump ? use the same lift and drop retrieve as the lipless

also you could cut  just the front hook off the front treble  of your lipless to reduce snags

have you tried a smaller or larger version of the lipless?

I have caught a few on Spinnerbaits.  The area is hard to describe without giving too much away but I can only hit it from 2 angles, neither of which is ideal.   A few will always eat the lipless crank right away but I can tell they are becoming conditioned to it.   I've been picking on them for going on 5 days now and have sore-mouthed about 25 of them.  Anything moving too slowly or anything on the bottom gets looked at but ignored.   They'll body slam a fluke when they get excited but I don't think they are eating it.

Have you tried a flick-shake worm?  Use the lightest Jackal jighead and a robo worm.  You should be able to keep that in front of their faces for a while, and it's easy to detect strikes with a braid/floro leader.  I've done really well on this setup on a local private grass lake I fish when the lipless crankbait bite gets fired up.

To your original question, the X-rap should hit your depth.  I also have a few "spaz" jerkbaits.  I think luckycraft makes them?  They hit that 2' depth I think.

Maybe try a shallow running crankbait like a Manns 1- or a Bandit Footloose.... Or slow rolling a slow-sink hard body swimbait like a Bullshad or Spro BBZ-1.

The Jackall Squad Minnow jerkbaits are supposed to stay in the 3 ft range but I personally think they fish a little deeper.
