Johnsfolly Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Our large tomato varieties are taking their sweet time to ripen. We do get a couple of cherry tomatoes every couple of days. They are great right off the vine. Especially after a hot day. Nothing like that warn sweet burst of tomato when you bite into one. One of life's greatest pleasures. We aren't going to get many blackberries and they are taking their time to ripen as well.
MOPanfisher Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 My tomatoes are doing the same, even some of the smaller ones are splitting due to the moisture. But they sure are tasty. Even the ones you pick a ltitle early, and just can't wait for full ripe, are still better than anything from he supermarket. Johnsfolly 1
Gavin Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 think the rat pack (my 2 kids, and 5 next door) has been eating my Tomatoes. Haven't had one yet!
Flysmallie Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Some friends down the street have a small garden we have been taking care of while they are on vacation. Too some tomatoes and squash. All I can say is that store bought sucks. Big time. tho1mas and BilletHead 2

Too some tomatoes and squash. All I can say is that store bought sucks. Big time. Yeah -- especially with tomatoes, nothing beats homegrown. Store bought tomatoes are usually tasteless and I haven't bought a slicer for years. I occasionally buy a roma for guacamole, but that's about it. Other stuff I grow is not as dramatically better tasting, and I'm thinking about scaling things back next year. On the chopping block are chiles, carrot, snap/snow pea, spinach, onion, shallot and garlic. They're readily available, bigger and better and taste as good as what I can grow. I never grew squash or zucchini due to the space they take, plus they're so readily available. I'll keep and maybe increase heirloom green and wax bean, lettuce, banana pepper, radish, beet and of course tomato. Mine is a small hobby garden -- not trying subsist on this stuff. I'm having less fun trying to keep up with this and the rest of the yard. Johnsfolly 1 John

BilletHead Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I like the garlic harvest but bummer on the tree rat plague. Since I have took out so many mine may be somewhat under control.
