WHARFRAT Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Anyone have an opinion or reviews of Ozark Rod Company's 6 or 7 ft dock shooting rod? @lozcrappie
Old plug Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 i think its just another thing they hang a lable on for sales I been shooting docks with a 7 ft light ugly stik before the shoulder finally went out for good. If I live thru this rehab program I will be doing it again. The 7 ft rod can be pretty strong. I shoot wacky worms with mine as well as jigs. You can do it from a higher level. But it might take a bit of practice. But might be better on your legs and back though.
WHARFRAT Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 I have one of the new ugly sticks that I use for one of my backups, but just doesn't perform like my main stick. I do think it's a great value for casting, in fact I own a couple! For shooting, when I load it up, I really lose accuracy compared with my other Rod. @lozcrappie
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Obviously the coefficient of the parabolic radius in relation to the logarithm of deflection is just slightly different between the two. Nothing $140 could fix Pete Deadstream and grizwilson 2
Old plug Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Well you might be better buying the rod you like if have faith in the product. It seemed harder to aim than the little short rods. Somedays when I would shoot a wackys with the 7 footer I about thew up my hands and quit in disgust. You never know what that thing might do after that first skip. I have had it skip right in front of the opening, jump up and go all the way through and wind up on the lift somewhere or in the frame and god only knows where else. Its a wild thing I will say that. I think it is due to the extra power. I was doing it last fall because could no longer cast with a shouldef I could hardly use period. I think if I recover I will forgo that in the future.
fishinwrench Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Get your hands on a 5'6" (light action) BPS Micro-Lite and try it for dock shooting. Not sure if it is the blank or the high profile guides but those rods shoot really good.
Gavin Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 North Fork Composites makes some really nice short bass blanks. Wrapped one of the 5'6" models, and it works great for roll casting wtd plugs under overhangs and into tight spots.
Seth Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 It should be a nice rod for shooting docks. I personally shoot 1/16oz jigs on a 7' Shakespeare Microseries light action rod and 1/32oz on the a 5'6" Berkley Cherrywood ultralight. Both rods can be had for less than $20 at your local Wally World. Spool them up with some chartreuse 4-6# mono and have at it. Ham 1
MOPanfisher Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I always end up using the same rod I normally crappie fish with, simply because I am more used to it. If I switch to my Outlaw or longer St. Croix I "bonk" a lot. Shorter does seem to be easier to control though.

I changed the reel off my ugly stik because even that was causing a lot of discomfort. That reel had 10lb braid on it. Braid that small is like sewing thread and I have used it for that. But coming off the end of that willowy rod it would wrap or loop itself around the tip sometime. It was not easy to untangle and about the worst ided I ever had. I still like the 10lb brid for regulr casting of wacky worms nd jigs.
