Since you cant seem to stop i wont either.....Look back at the time period after the second world war to the early 1980s.  The wealthiest americans paid a SIGNIFICANTLY higher tax rate...and guess what...they were still rich, the last 30 years has been a miserable failure for everyone except the very rich.  Im not sure how familiar you are with the sliding tax scale, but the wealthiest americans who currently benefit most from the capitalistic system are paying about the same as working folks when you factor in a pathetically low capitol gains tax.  Since most wealth in the country is made via capitol gains, not working americans, more money you make this way, the less it is taxed....hence the major incentive to make money, is in finance/wall street...actual innovators and developers (STEM) arent paid anything comparatively.  Why make money through work when you can simply trade stocks that were given to you by your wealthy family right?    Earned income tax for these people is taxed at 36% i believe, but if you make 90% of your money via capitol gains your rate averages out to the the low 20% if that.  That is just bass akwards.  Somehow suggesting that taxes be restructured the way they were 50 years ago so communistic or socialistic or whatever.  Were we commies in the 60s and 70s?  No politicians on either side like to talk about tax rates in the past.  The rich havent paid their fair share for 50 years.  Also,  Nobody complains about socialized police departments or fire departments, we take it for granted (what if your house was burning down and the fire department had to call your insurance company for a prior authorization..."sir we are waiting on approval, please be patient).  Unfortunately both republicans and democrats are only concerned about who is paying them the most, and thats all.  Since the rich have the most money they get what they want, all they have to do is convince the working class that its best for everyone this way. im kind of a democrat by default only cuz they suck a little less.  I guess it just blows my mind how the ultra wealthy have convinced everyone that whats best for working class folks is something more along the lines of a flat tax.  The american dream was never that you could be super rich, but that you could work hard and make a living to provide for your family.  The perpetual myth from the right is that if you work hard, youll be rich, if you dont youll be poor.  So..if your poor..it must be because your lazy, and if your rich, it must be cause you worked so hard to get all your money.  IN reality history has shown, and now is no different that its quite the other way around.

First off I was having a friendly joke with Mark as that was the understood tone between him and I, cordial. You took it to defcon 2 with this rant. Take away from your splattering of nonsense is that you care about what other people have and devote time to being angry that you feel slighted by the more fortunate. I am not going to get into political policy here like I've said before. I will get into just common courtesy of your fellow man and neighbor, which is pretty clear you don't have a taste for. Maybe you should care less about what your neighbors have and focus on yourself. Your version of the American dream is hilarious. "The american dream was never that you could be super rich, but that you could work hard and make a living to provide for your family." Pretty sure I saw you in a DirectTV commercial recently. It's easy to connect the dots with you and your mindset on everything you have thus set forth on this forum. The American Dream is whatever you want it to be. If that means digging ditches and just scraping by to provide for your family, fine. If that mean's owning Microsoft and having a demolition derby once a week with Lamborghini's fine. Sounds like you are too concerned about the Jone's house when you should be concerned with looking at your own. I don't judge a guy that has a $75,000 Ranger boat or the guy in the 14 foot tin rowboat. Apparently you do. You do you and I'll do me.

And once upon a time, there was print media, that mostly dealt in actual facts. You could slant it with editorial bias, and they did, but at the end of the day, if you printed total lies they were right there in ink for someone to call you out on, or sue you over and make you run a retraction under the ad for grannie panties and sundresses on page 12...

Harry and JFK wouldn't even get out of the primaries in their own party these days. Too conservative, both warmongers. Or so they would say.

I agree with this, except I think many would argue they would be considered too hard left, socialistic, big government, high taxes on the rich.  It just depends on what lens your looking through.  I think here in lies the problem though, there is no room in 2016 politics for people who dont tow the party line 100%.  If your an R you believe XYZ, if your a D, you believe ABC...the problem...BELIEVE.  There are no facts, no discussions..a side is picked, once a side is picked people for some reason have to agree with EVERY conservative, or EVERY liberal position.  NO room for discrepancy.  Ive always felt like a progressive liberal (obviously) but there are SEVERAL issues where id say i fall quite in line with a conservative.  Unfortunately there is no room for representation in washington for people who feel differently from the repub/democrat entrenchment, sucks too because the majority of americans arent as entrenched as we are led to believe by 24 hour news networks/media in general....which i agree with mark...are exacerbating existing problems.

I have been reading this thread since the beginning and I would just add that anyone who votes a certain way because they are told to deserves what they get.  I don't care if you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Green Party, Communist Party or Socialist Party, a member of management or a member of a union it is your right to vote the way YOU want so please do not sell your vote because someone or some organization told you to.  Too many veterans fought for your right to vote the way you think is best for you!!

How in the heck did a thread as simple as this one turn into such a crap fest??!!  Are people really that jealous of what others have they have to crap in a thread for no reason?
