Some of it was quite surprising, with studies done by Mike Allen on recovery time of fish based on the hold used. Bottom line was that none of the common holds were inherently harmful to the bass, or could be shown to cause permanent injury or impair the ability to feed. The study included fish up to 8.5lb. something that some of us seem to have known for years. just take a look at how bill dance has held big bass for eons. but, some people need something to complain about. thanks for posting and hope that those none believers will at least read it, and we can talk more about how to catch these darn green and brown critters. bo dtrs5kprs 1
Champ188 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Bill Dance doesn't exactly qualify as a subject matter expert on fish care. You want to catch more "green and brown critters" then it doesn't hurt to start by taking the best care possible of the ones we do catch. If promoting fish care qualifies as complaining, color me guilty from now on. denjac, 176champion, 96 CHAMP and 5 others 8
MOPanfisher Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Part of me wants to ask if there is a proper way to hold a bass while filleting it, but I am thin skinned and get my feelings hurt easily. 176champion, Sam and Champ188 3

I've talked with some folks who are good sticks, and know good info, but don't post becuase they don't want to get jumped over having a fish at a slightly extreme angle in a pic. Also just thought it was a very interesting article that addressed a lot of commonly held notions.
MOPanfisher Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I am pretending that was a white bass. Is it just me or was the fillet board completely backward for a right hand person. It obviously worked but I would have stabbed myself several times working that way.
176champion Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I always thought that clip was suppose to be clipped on the tail not the head...but what do i know, i never used one. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
Bill Babler Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Any more of this and the topic will be closed. Were not going to have any of this stuff this year. We let it go way to far last year, not going to happen this year. We have had just some outstanding threads with lots of great participation. Not going to ruin any of the fine start to the year with Tom Foolery. We thank you Hunter53, 96 CHAMP and LD Fisher 3 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
