When my oldest turned 17 she all of a sudden decided that I was a flippin' idiot.   Now she is fixing to be 21 and I'm convinced that she is correct.

Earlier today the wife and I needed to run to the store. We told the youngest to run upstairs and let her older sister know that we were going on a quick run.  She says, "Why does someone have to WATCH ME? I'm six years old for Christ sake".     The wife and I both laughed until we cried......then spent the rest of the evening trying to explain to her why "FOR CHRIST SAKE" was not something 6 year olds should be saying.

No it's not a cuss word, but.....

No it's not taking the Lord's name in vain, but....

She doesn't get it, and quite frankly neither do I.  So OK fine, you win, but DON'T SAY IT IN SCHOOL OR IN FRONT OF YOUR FRIENDS !

Why ?

I am at a loss. Help!

Sure my turn in the barrel is coming...but my 6 &8yr olds will still confirm my delusions of grandeur if I buy them ice cream.

They are precious in youth, aren't they?   Our 6y/o favorite thing in life is folding laundry. She will actually get pissed if the wife does it without her.  How long ya reckon that'll last?

dunno, just gonna enjoy wathching them grow up. 6yr old is an outspoken bullet. 8yr old is shy but devious. Will get interesting.

Yes, ice cream seems to be the great problem solver. Everyone can just forget about their issues so quickly.

I was talking about this with a friend just this past weekend. You get about 10-12 years of the really good stuff -- where they're cute as heck, love you unconditionally and think you're the greatest parents anyone could want. Then it's gone. I guess grandkids are gonna be a close second, but I don't know that from experience.

Don't get me wrong, life's pretty good, but I'll never see those days again. It is pretty satisfying to see -- when things start to click and your kids start to show that the things you tried to teach really did stick. I'm just now getting to that point with mine, even #2 son.
