Really it  comes down to what works for you. i seen a picture of Alexader Putin fishing for trout with a spin cast outfit. Heck I even tried a long stiff Bamboo pole one time to flip behind and over all these dock cables around here. I did not like the cumberson thing and burnt it. It did work though. Got the idea from way back when they used to do something called doodle socking

Hey Super Dave. How heavy is that Lew's rod compared to say the St Croix Eyecon you were nice enough to recommend? I'd love to have a less expensive Ned rod on the river in case disaster were to strike.

Very comparable, even with the extra length. It would be an ideal beater Ned rod. Half the price of the Eyecon. It's not the same rod at all, but it would do nicely.

Cool. Overton's.

I think that lews tournament mb (as has been mentioned)  for 130 bucks (cheaper if you can find a sale)  is the best reel I've ever used.  I've never spent big bucks on gear,  but that reel is that most user friendly thing ever.

Couldn't agree more on this reel. Donna and I have several and have had no problems with any of them. Lew's spinning reels have been another story. It'll be a long while before I buy another one, if ever. I have one less than a year old with the main drive gear ratcheting every time I try to play a fish.

I would say if you got the 6-10 version (third down from the top) you'd have a pretty versatile set-up on which you could throw just about anything.

Their spinning reels are just not OK. Looked at some of the new ones last week, ended up buying another Daiwa.

I got  Team Gold Spin in the 3000 size and was very pleased with it. I bought a second one. Still very happy with them. I got a couple of the 1000 size on sale and they are both crap. I hate em. They were crap the first time I used them. They were crap when I took them out of the box. I'm going to try to take them to the store in Springfield and see if they WILL help me out. I know they can. We will see if they choose to do so.

Curious if anyone has an opinion on last year's model vs. the 2016 version?  My brother bought a couple of the 2000's last year and loves em'.  I was considering one of the 2016's since he likes his so well but now y'all got me second guessing that idea.  All my other spinning reels are Shimano Stradic's and and a couple of Shimano Sarro's for lighter weight applications.  This was to be more of an experiment (and an excuse to buy something new to welcome the season!) and had planned to pair it with one of the Eyecon's that Dave recommended (see previous excuse) than a need for something specific.
