chi0082 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Just curious to see what you guys are catching out on the Rock as far as average size of largemouth bass?
Sore Thumbs Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Check out tournament results. That would be a good barometer marcus and Grumpy53 2
Sprint21fter Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Most of the top bags in tournaments range from 4lb average to 3.5 with a six pounder. Normally around 20-22lbs, with the right conditions and baits several of those bags will show up even into the upper 20's, during the spawn, 17-19lbs with the occasional 20+ being caught sight fishing. Post spawn, 15lbs is a solid bag of fish. Its hard to determine the averages due to having 3 3lbers, 4lber, then 5lber= 18+lbs. or anything in beween and then having a 7lb kicker or bigger. On average for me anytime you hit the teens is better than average. Clear as mud! chi0082, magicwormman and GENTLE 3
Champ188 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Everything counted ... keepers and nonkeepers ... I'd venture to say the average bass caught on Table Rock is 14 inches. That's for the average angler, myself included. However, some among us seem to forego the small ones and catch practically all keepers. And lots of them. That's been my experience, probably average at least 5 non-keepers for every keeper. But, I'm not fishing for 5 big bites. mixermarkb 1
merc1997 Bo Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Everything counted ... keepers and nonkeepers ... I'd venture to say the average bass caught on Table Rock is 14 inches. That's for the average angler, myself included. However, some among us seem to forego the small ones and catch practically all keepers. And lots of them. well, champ you can either fish for keepers or just catch whatever bites. in tournament fishing, i just fished for however many bites the tournament limit was. if i got those bites, i would be right up there in the money, and when i got more bites than that i often won. last night was a prime example. i had a total of ten bites and 8 were keepers and 7 of them were 3 lb. plus bass. i know many do not have the mind frame to do that, but in tournament fishing catching non-keepers is a waste of valuable time. however, when i take linda fishing, she is just learning and getting lots of bites is beneficial in learning what is going on. my old tournament partner dale was with me last night, and we still go about fishing as though we were fishing a tournament, and just fish for quality bites. most often, even this time of the year, the better bass are not up on the bank, and a jig thoroughly fished in the right areas will most often produce better quality bites. now, you can catch more doing other things and fishing up shallower. i used to love fishing a single spin this time of the year at night, but learned that if you will put on a jig and live with it, you will consistently catch better quality bass. i know that there are many different strategies to tournament fishing. for me, i rarely tried to catch a limit and then go try to find a kicker. my mentality was to catch a limit of kickers, which meant you were not fishing for very many bites. out of all the keepers we have caught in the last several night trips, i do not even know if we have caught 10 total non-keepers. linda loves fishing with the little guy because there is usually something that will hit it. it does catch lot of bass, many times lots of keepers, and will most definitely when conditions are right entice some big bass. spoon fishing is another way to get lots of bites, but even with spoon fishing, the better bass are not often with the small ones. linda is wanting to go fishing friday night if it is warm enough so, i may be trying to find a way to get more bites to keep her interest up. hard to get me to change though. kind of like getting you out past 10 ft. deep. we just get set in our ways. bo
mjk86 Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 1-2 pounds. 13-15 inches. Seems like with largemouth they get long and skinny first.... but, like the men in my family, they begin to grow wide and put on a large midsection. merc1997 Bo 1
