dan hufferd Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Ok I have a story.... When I was in my 20's I fished the upper James river a lot mostly for catfish. One night I was running my trotlines, my favorite line was between two stumps on the edge of bluff. the bluff came up out of the water about 2 feet and then back towards the bank about 5 feet then straight up a rock wall for at least 50 ft. To be clear this made a ledge that was elevated 2 ft above the water and was 5 ft deep. You could not get to it but only by boat. It was a cool full moon night well after dark, I was using an old sealed beam head light for a spot light. as I was nearing my line I noticed that the ledge that my trotline was hanging from looked weird.I picked up my home-made spot light to see what was going on... and man I have never seen that many snakes in my life ! I don't know how long that ledge was, but as far as my light could see it was wall to wall snakes. I would guess that the cool temps and warm rocks made for great snake habitat. At least they were kind enough to sleep were no one can walk. I did get my catfish from the line and as I remember a couple turtles. I fished that same place many times after that, but never saw that phenomenon again. BilletHead 1
MOPanfisher Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Many years ago on a college float on I believe the Eleven Point, one of the guys killed a cotton mouth on a log back in a little slough, being a good hillbilly we fetched it out of lhe water and lopped off its head and put it in the canoe. A few hours later at camp after some discussion powered by Budweiser I decided I would skin, roast and eat it. No salt nothing, just snake pieces in a green stick and some hot coals. I don't remember much on the taste, as if I could have tasted anything anyway at that point, but I remember how tough it was. We finally got to passing around the pieces to see who get even get a piece of meat off of it. No snake ever died a less glorious death than that poor critter. Smallieguy87, dan hufferd and Mitch f 3

You stuff the snake in your butt crack to get even with doctors for hard-selling such a rediculis procedure. When the doc craps his pants you tell him HE is the one in need of an anal probing. Several years ago i was on orders to train some reserve soldiers at a small army post called Ft. Hunter Ligget. It's a fairly remote post up in the hills and is about right in the middle of California. When we arrived we got the typical Army safety brief which always has a portion about not messing with the wildlife in the area...needless to say that brief went right out the window for a few guys. While out at one of the shoot houses one of the NCO'S spots a rattle snake of some kind and decides to accidentally park a HMMV on its body and beat it with his rifle. This particular fellow was a big time country boy and decides he's going to eat it. So he starts going around collecting salt and pepper packets from everyone's MRE's and the cooks it and eats it at one of the BBQ pits. Next thing you know our CO finds out and he gets Articled for it. Lucky for him he didn't loss any rank but did have to give up some pay over the whole ordeal and placed on several unsavory tasks for the remainder or our three months there (this happened about two days into the whole event)

My uncle was attacked by a squirrel once. Whats so funny about the whole thing is he is a very big man. He's about 6'4 and 250lbs and has 2 golden gloves in boxing. The story i'd heard from him and my mom was that he was walking back from the laundry area in the apartment complex he was living in and had his laundry basket full of clothes when he came upon a squirrel on the side walk. He says he tried to walk around it but it jumped on his leg. Clothes go flying out of the basket and the fight was on at that point. I believe the squirrel won.

fishinwrench Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Had a squirrel fall out of a tree into the creek and landed within rods length of me. At first he panicked and wanted to climb out on ME but I kicked his butt for trying. Nothing uglier than a wet squirrel !

You always need somebody to get Dr. report and drive you home. My buddy wanted to know what Dr. said after he sobered up. I handed him a paper sack with what the Dr. found... On a serious and sad note my long time friend and fishing buddy lost his battle with Colon cancer Friday the 22nd. Don't mess around with this killer. R.I.P. Jerry Cheney
