I have been reading some of the posts about some of you guys fishing the Whopper Plopper. And I was thinking of picking one up at BPS.So what size and color have doing well?

I don't think color matters much, and I think both sizes do well.  Hopefully that answers your question.  LOL.

Here's a link of threads involving the WP, where folks mention colors and sizes that might be helpful. Maybe different colors work better on different parts of the lake? Not sure; just throwing it out there as something worth considering if there's a specific part of the lake you'll be fishing.

Well if I had to get just one, I would get the 130 size. I have been catching them on "I know it" which is a white underside, gray top with a chartreuse stripe.  Some guys like "Loon" which is basically black.

I've managed to fight the urge on that bait. I have a couple of 130's in shad colors and a black. And three 90's all in shad colors. Powder, phantom shad, and some color that starts with blue. Might be blue blood.

As others have mentioned, the rings on the little ones are way too light. Switch those out immediately.

Lol, for Dave, holding off on a lure is only having 5 of them.

I have 3 of the 130's and 8 of the 90's. I have purchased all I plan to purchase less I lose or break some.

So far, having the 130's has been a waste of money.

I really worry about the color of top water lures. Most likely, I worry about that more than I should. I would suggest getting 2 or 3 colors and seeing if it works for you. You can always buy more later. I am concerned that the lure will become less effective when more people throw it, but there's not a whole lot you can do about it.

I have a pretty simple theory when it comes to topwater colors. Not saying it's right or wrong, it's just mine.

Under brighter light conditions and/or in very clear water, I like natural shad colors. In low light and/or stained water, I like black because it creates the best silhouette as fish look up against the sky.

And 99% of the time, I like a feathered hook on the rear.

I will have 6 in the box, and probably one of each size for the kids. Like you, I think it might have a short length of service. If a bait was ever going to condition them, the plopper is it.

On any TW I want a painted shad color for cloudy days, black or close to it for low light/night and extreme clouds/rain, and a chrome for bright sun. Clear would be the next option. Something frog or perch if you are fishing around beds, docks, small lakes.
