fishinwrench Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Love War Eagle Spinnerbaits....but a 4 pounder was lost at the boat today because the freakin HOOK BROKE! I can understand the wire breaking on a heavily used bait, but the HOOK on a fairly fresh Spinnerbait ? Dangit! I have 75.00 worth of Spinnerbaits that I don't trust anymore. Luckily this one made it to the boat though Is this a "thing" with War Eagle's ? Maybe some better hooks would be a reasonable improvement to an otherwise perfect Spinnerbait. I'll pay the extra 20 cents. Lancer09 1
Mitch f Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Had 3 of them come apart the exact same way. Fantastic fish man! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
DADAKOTA Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I have had more problem with their buzz bait blades. Have had them break the first day out of the package. Blades break long before you would even think of replacing the skirt. The life of the blade is measured in hours as I have yet to have one last a year.
Ham Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I suggest that you Write a polite business letter to them and explain the situation. Include a phone number and an email address. Offer to provide photos. Offer to mail in the lures that failed. I would expect them to replace the broken ones at a minimum and likely throw some extra goodies as well. I've never liked the War Eagle hook, but I can't say that I'm sure that it's costing me fish and I dang sure have never had one fail like that. That is not acceptable. dtrs5kprs 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Seth Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Dang! I have heard of several guys losing fish due to the wire frame breaking with War Eagle spinnerbaits, but never at the hook like that. I haven't had any actually break, but the wire is very loose where it enters the head on a couple of my well worn War Eagle spinnerbaits like what you have pictured I'll probably just throw them in the trash and use the new ones since they are prone to breaking. It sucks that the good baits are rarely the ones that hold up the best.
fishinwrench Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 I have several that have wobbly heads and I actually kinda like that. I'm assuming that the wire is attached to the hook so there should be no separation there. The fish made a charge under the boat and when I leaned on him he came unbuttoned, but then I noticed my trailer was gone. Went to replace the trailer and had nothing to put it on. It broke the hook shank right at the lead head. Bummed me out because I really do like those 3/8 tandem willows they make. Gonna have to find an alternative I guess because I can't be worried about breaking a hook when fishing a Spinnerbait.
Old plug Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I am just completely frustrated. I hope the head breaks off of all of them Wrench. I been looking at these pictures and all this ideal fishing and I cannot even get down to the boat much less do anything after I got there. I am well aware how good the fishing has been in every fibber of my body.

fshndoug Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I am glad my homemade spinnerbaits hold up better than that Fish24/7 and dtrs5kprs 2
