nomolites Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Bet that was FUN, and you can understand why they are a valued fighting game fish in Europe! Nice! Mike
Hughesy Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I can't remember the year (maybe Bill can remember) but it was many moons ago when I was guiding everyday. Any way, it was in March and we were throwing jerk baits. For the entire jerk bait season we just hammered big carp. I'm talking 4 to 6 carp per trip. There might have been a big shad kill that year and the carp were coming up and sucking in the dead shad. The word was getting around that I was the best carp guide on the lake. Haven't caught one on a jerk bait since. Go figure! dtrs5kprs, Champ188, Ham and 5 others 8
MOPanfisher Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 They ain't too bad to eat either. Probably out of the clear waters of the Rock it would be even better. Scale it, remove head and innards, remove tail and fins. Then pretentious it's a big trout, butter, garlic, onion slices and lemon slices, toss on a sprig of dill if desired, cover with foil and bake until tender. Big bones are easy to pick out as you eat it, rich and sticky meat. Codywskeeter1521 1
cheesemaster Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 There is a place in Omaha Ne called Joe Tess and from what I hear - they serve a real mean carp. I don't eat fish but have been told that Joe's has a line of people out the door every day because it's so good. Ellros 1

I wouldn't say "line out the door", but they are Very popular., Now, fridays during Lent is another thing entirely
MOPanfisher Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 What seems like a LONG time ago when I was a kid, we trot lined for carp and canned them, I thought it was pretty good, didnt know we was just poor hilbillies, thought we was living high when mom would open a jar and make fish patties. tho1mas, Donna G, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 4
bluebasser86 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Big Ol' Sewer Bass. I always snag the dang things early in the year on traps fishing the shallow flats on the lakes around here.
