BilletHead Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 They are drinking water from LOZ. Makes them sterile. MOPanfisher Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 They try to swim across LOZ and get hit by the big boats. Or maybe when the little ones get in the water the big old flatheads get them. Who doesn't like pork. Ham 1
Flysmallie Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 If you allow hunting then people looking to make a buck will start releasing them. I've got a buddy that works at a high fence ranch in Texas. They are totally out of control there. You can't kill enough of them. Its not bad here and hopefully it never will be. I would like to shoot some though. BilletHead 1
Old plug Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I think it is the human density that is keeping them down,
MOPanfisher Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Pigs are one of the most adaptable critters there are. If there was a way to have them as a hunting option and not have them take over I would be all for them. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be they will out compete, out reproduce and destroy areas for other wildlife. I have my doubts as to how well the trapping only will work. I would like to see MDC combine some dog hunting with the trapping. If the trap cathe 6 out 8 pigs, put the dogs on those last 2 and run them to ground. Eliminate the sounder and move on. I am afraid that the population is already beyond what can be controlled. Johnsfolly 1

Quillback Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Aren't very many in NW Arkansas, I have yet to see wild pig one. Seem to be more of a problem in central Arkansas around the agricultural areas. Watched an Outdoor Arkansas show about a year ago that featured the AGFC's efforts to control them. Those fence type traps they set out for them have to be circular, if not, those genius pigs will all crowd up into a corner and some of them will climb on the backs of the others and get over the fence and escape.
Quillback Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Interesting read on pig traps. http://feralhogs.tamu.edu/files/2010/05/CorralTraps.pdf
Johnsfolly Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Quillback Sounds like a fair amount of work that would need a lot of hands. Maybe if the MDC brought in those hog huntng girls from Florida, guys would line up and volunteer to help.
bkbying89 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I have read that getting permission to hunt hogs in Texas is really easy to obtain. Even seen ads where you pay a small amount and some dude who has access to the ranches having problems puts you in the right area. I don't know about cost or areas as it's not really my area of interest. Just posted for the people that might be interested.
