MOPanfisher Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I have always wanted to.make a trip to Texas, and take along tools, leather gloves, chainsaw etc. Find the right area and knock on a few doors, explain that I would like to trade work for the opportunity to hunt pigs. Figured that first trip down I wouldn't even take a rifle, just tools. In the right place I think it would work, but I also suspect the ranchers get several people a year wanting to hunt for free.

Since then I've seen less than a half dozen here and there. Always just singles all alone. If none of the others are there to see one fall from a "Boom" then I guess they won't become ultra-intelligent? Even though "Booms" happen all the time around here with all these SHTF freaks and all the Rednecks with big fireworks. I wonder what is keeping their numbers in check around here? Interesting factoid about hogs.... I met a couple of girls my senior year that had no idea that pork was a noun too! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Old plug Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 As far a pork goes we got plenty of Hoover porks running around here. If you know what that is. I do not want to see anything larger rooting around out in the yard. But if I did you can bet no state regulation would stop me from shooting one of those Varmin.y
MOPanfisher Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 The way the new rule reads is that hunting hogs will only be banned on public lands. Private land or in self defense are fair game.

MOPanfisher Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I have helped MDC and Dept. Of Ag. A couple of.times and it is a lots of sweaty miserable work. The traps were mostly set primarily in July/ august time frames on the public grounds, mostly because during the hot miserable weather the dog hunters didn't want to be out, plus they don't like to run the dogs when snakes are active. Other times of the year yiu had to worry about keeping locations quiet lest someone with dogs run through the area scattering them, or having the trap/bait out before deer season so as to not accidentally create a hunting over bait for someone who might not even know a bait site was there. I hope to help again in the future, but sometimes life gets in the way. I hope the trapping success goes through the roof or at least hits the 80% of the population to overcome the reproductive capabilities of feral hogs.
ollie Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I have property that has them on them from time to time. A couple of years ago MDC caught over a dozen of them in a circular trap. I think that was only a drop in the bucket from what I have seen around there. I know if I ever see one I will shoot first and ask questions later! fishinwrench Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 What do they do with them after they catch them?
DADAKOTA Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 What did they do with them once they caught them?
