Flysmallie Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 A couple of years ago a bunch of rented a place from Sunburst to hang at the NFOW for 3 days. The first four of us that got there geared up and headed for the river. I hit one of the first steps of the stairs that led down to the water and bit the dust. Feet straight out from under me and my back landed right on one of those steps. My first thought was I wonder how long it will take the ambulance to get here. It wasn't that bad after all but the pain was incredible. After they finally got me inside and I went through the enormous pain of getting my waders and boots off, I took some advil, fixed me a drink, and found a spot on the couch for the weekend. About that time Wrench shows up with his pup Orion and that dog thought the best place to be was on my lap. So there I sat with a jack and coke spilled all over myself and no desire to move or change or anything. Worse fishing trip I have ever been on. Plus the river rose like 12 feet overnight and it pretty much sucked for everyone. We still had a good time as always though.

Members Browntrout Posted September 15, 2016 Members Posted September 15, 2016 Fell on some rocks fishing at hickory creek a few summers ago, and hurt my knee. it really knocked the crap out of me when it happened. Walked on it for about a month before i realised something was wrong, put it back in place while i was at work. Went to the doctor a few days later and told them i thought i dislocated my kneecap, they said i had but i had already put it back in place.
MOPanfisher Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 It's amazing how quick and easy things happen. After my bone marrow transplant and chemo and I was finally released to go fishing again, I was in a buddy's boat and we pulled up to a remote ramp, and I jumped out like I had a thousand times before. One foot slipped and my knee prompt cried foul as it hyper extended. Took weeks for it to be "right" again. Because I walked differently for a while it made the other hip and my back hurt. Getting old isn't for wimps!

But the individuals that I wish could answer this question are those who can't tell their story. Every few weeks someone ends up dead doing what we do on a regular basis. I want to know if it was just bad luck or a bad decision but many times we don't know. Although there are many reasons for these incidents I believe a lot of them have to do with not wearing a PFD, getting in a hurry, letting eagerness, testosterone, and optimism over ride common sense, faulty or poorly maintained equipment, not checking the weather, lake, or river conditions before you go, not watching the weather conditions while you are out, and a few are unpreventable accidents.

Members Jeff Maberry Posted October 11, 2016 Members Posted October 11, 2016 June 1 2008 we were fishing on big River about two miles up river from Washington state Park. Done fishing for the day about 2: pm and we headed back to the ramp just fast enough to be on plane and ran into a car that someone dumped in the river, it must have been there for years but this was my first and last time on big River in a boat
Russell Doughty Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 One time night fishing Taneycomo by myself I turned to leave from fishing and got a dose of vertigo and fell on my back in 3 feet of water. When I got turned over, I couldn't get my feet under me and almost drowned. I was finally able to claw my way out of the water and make it back to my vehicle. Have never been night fishing by myself again.
