White river flyshop at BPS is pretty bad, clerks just leave you unattended in there and very lacking in knowledge. Something BPS and Cabelas share.

You have to wonder, how many trout knowledgable people applied for that position?

I would guess that most of the people working in those places are retired folk, high school kids or younger people bidding time looking for a better job. They do their best. Their not pros in fishing, camping, guns etc.  Their there to help you the best they can. Suggest that you all just give them a break. Just my thoughts.

A loooonnngg time ago I worked in both hunting and fishing depts.  I was knowledgeable (so I thought) but actually learned more from folks working there and customers that came in than I knew.  Still.remember one individual who gave me a quick lesson in disassembling and re assembling an AR, had never even seen one before.

Can't really put Rangers in BPS next to Nitros.

Well, you could if you wanted to illustrate the fact that not all boats are created equal. :D

I really wonder about the long-term viability of this whole business model. I mean, is there anybody who cares left that hasn't been into a BPS or Cabela's and oohed and ahhed at all stuff there is to see in there? After that, what's the point? The fudge?

The stores never carry as much stuff as the websites do. More than once I've been disappointed when going in for a purchase only to find they don't have it there at all, or my size wasn't available. From the comfort of my toilet (sorry) I can research, read reviews, compare prices and buy -- then have a guy drive over to my house and place it on my doorstep in a few days. Yeah, I know you don't buy boats that way. And some folks gotta touch and feel before they buy. But I just don't go in those stores very often and wonder why folks will continue to. I'll admit the Cabela's near me is always pretty busy when I screw up and have to go in there for a last-minute purchase. Especially the gun counter. I just wonder how long these massive brick-and-mortar stores will continue to be a destination for people.

I'm sure Johnny has given this more thought than me.

And, for the record, I am not now, and never was, bashing the man. I don't know a thing about him. Just looking at it from the business perspective.
