Braid and Flouro leader question

Ham It has been years. but I remember those times very well. Also remember those time that it came out before line broke. Hardly time to get out of the way.

I love my Nanofil on light spinning outfits.  still.haven't mastered a good knot for a leader, although where and how I fish I would love to have a mono leader as the Nanofil gets a little roughed up and you better be retying it, mono handles the abrasion much better.  and high bis all the way, have caught a lot of fish that the only indication was a little tic in the line, as it blows in the wind very easily.

I've always been a fan of a uni knot for tying braid to flourocarbon or mono leaders.  It is a good knot for flourocarbon because it is a slip knot and the nature of the knot does not allow the flourocarbon (which is denser than mono) to cut into itself, as it can with an overhand style knot like a Palomar.

At Hams recommendation I gave Nanofil a shot this year.  After two trips I took it off.  The stuff is worthless in the wind. Alberto knot is great.

Straight 4 pound flouro for trout fishing, 10 pound on a medium spinning rod for flukes and stuff and 6 pound for the Ned on a St Croix rod Ham and Dave recommended.  I love that St Croix Rod as much as my Helios flyrod.

I fully acknowledge that wind makes nano more than pretty annoying to deal with but you can allow the Nano to rest on the surface of the water at times and cheat the wind that way. 

I will always use nanofil for most of my spinning options UNTIL something better comes along.

My son was cracking up.  The Nano was floating up in the air like kite string.  No way it was fishable.

You need to try harder with the nanofil.  Not joking.  Two trips is not a fair trial.  But you are right about the knot for nanofil to 4 lb P line flouroclear.  The casting distance, sensitivity and hookset is what makes it worthwhile if you ask a very reluctant convert (mostly) like me.  I still fish maxima on a few reels.  And always keep a mono spooled reel handy in case Iose all my leaders and there's good bite happening.

I to got on the nanofil train, I agree with the wind and knot issues, but I can't seem to take it off my reel because of the performace of it.   I love it for drifting neds in the current, I find they drift slower and stay in the zone longer because it catches less water.   I to went to a mono leader, it doesn't break at the knot as much for me with the alberto, and that small amount of mono on the leader doesn't hinder sensitivy enough to matter. 

Like Rick, I do keep another one spooled up with mono/flouro just in case I break both my leaders on my to nano rods, that can be frustrating..

I ended up getting the nanofil hi viz 300 yds and some P-Line Fluoro based on Hams recommendation.

I plan on leaving a bunch of braid on the spools as backing and just adding 100yds or so to each reel. will a nail to nail knot work ok for the connection of the nanofil to the braid or is there something better. This stuff is super thin even at 6lb. I have a nail knot tool that makes the job easier and its pretty much the same as a uni to uni knot. Also how much leader are you adding to the nano? We'll just see what happens with the wind.

6 to 8 ft leader on nanofil.  Crazy Alberto is the knot to use between nano and mono.  cannot speak to braid to nano knot.  guessing nail to nail would work but alberto probably better.  Though how often does one test a knot 100 yards into the spool?
