skeeter Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 What you will quickly discover at that site is that due to some ridiculous agreement with the EPA, you cannot find/buy Ethanol-free gas within about a 100 mile radius of St. Louis. mixermarkb 1
fishinwrench Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 There is alot of propaganda regarding alcohol enhanced fuel. As far as I can tell it is pure baloney. Fuel that is CLEAN and FRESH is what I believe is important, and non-ethanol fuel is more likely to be dirty and less fresh nowadays. Just my thoughts on it. If you throw a match on it and it immediately goes "WOOF!" then you can run an engine on it just fine. The quicker (and louder) it goes WOOF the better. ? It doesn't need to be any more complicated than that.
tho1mas Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I do not know for sure but I just bought a new Stihl weed trimmer that had a stamp in red letters on the owners manual " Use non-ethanol fuel ONLY". Just a thought. skeeter 1
Dutch Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 My regular engine tech had me change out the gas line in my boat. He said ethanol would dissolve the lining of the hose and stop up my injectors. I'll keep on buying 91 octane ethanol free gasoline and use it in my small motors and my Verado.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Most engines are designed to run on 87, 91 burns less efficient. Ethanol will eat up OLD gas lines but it is no problem to run it in most motors from this decade. It only becomes a problem if you are letting Ethanol sit for extender periods because it breaks down quicker. My Opti runs great on 87 and it never sits more than 10-12 days. 91 burns slower and decreases performance. I used to run Ethanol free 91 before i did some research. I run all day on 87 now and the inside of my prop stays nice and clean. When i ran 91 i would always get carbon build up all over it fishinwrench 1
David Unnerstall Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Chrysler's factory school recommended 89 octane.
MOPanfisher Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I agree that clean and fresh ethanol is fine, however it doesn't store well. if you let it set it begins to absorb water from the air, and that is bad. the wizard at LSK, told me once 75% or so of their mechanical work was due to poor fuel or ethanol fuels. people let it set in their atvs etc until it is junk and then bring the unit in for service. I use regular fuel.in my mower sometimes because I know it won't be there long, and add some seafood to it as well on occasion. boat motor only gets ethanol free because sadly I don't know how long it will set before I get the opportunity to go out again.
fishinwrench Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I buy fuel using the same mentality of buying milk. It's ignorant to buy more than you can use up before it goes bad, even if the price is good at the time. dprice and terryj1024 2
Al Agnew Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 Well, I've heard all the horror stories about using gas with ethanol, but have never worried enough to not buy it. My boat often sits for a month or two between uses (in the summer or when I'm in Montana), and I've never had a bit of trouble with it. Most fishing days I'll run about a half a tank, so usually about a half tank sits until the next time. Just my experience.
