I don't know what I am missing out on with a high dollar cranking rod. My first cranking rod is a H2O from Academy sports. The next 2 I bought were from Lew's in Springfield, two steps up in price for sure, with zero performance improvement.  Not sure what I will go with next - so I will keep reading this thread and do more research with the "hands" like Abkeenen suggests to do.

I would like to think that by spending extra money I would get a lighter rod that was  more sensitive and still have the correct taper and rod speed to throw and retrieve crank baits.

its a bonus it the rod will multi-task not something I am shopping for in a "wart" rod.

i have a couple of Rick Clunn 7 foot square bill rods. They throw great and fight fish well. They could be lighter and they could be more sensitive. I paid less than $60 each so hard to complain. I want to fish that Lews Wart Rod. I have a friend that is an excellent wart guy and he swears by it, but I need to throw it myself.

Ham I would agree on sensitivity on almost every rod but the crankbait rod. Some of the best ones are fiberglass with tons of bend. You almost want the opposite. If you feel the bite you might pull it out of their mouth. They can't put any leverage on a flimsy rod therefore the lure stays hooked. This is just my opinion. I'm sure there are pros for the more sensitive rods as well. If you ever want to try one of my crappy Skeet rods let me know I'll let you try one out.

I'd like to be to tell I've had a bite. I can control my response time. I won't respond if I don't know I've had a bite.

I have a 7' medium action Abu Garcia Veritas - Winch 2.0 that I love to throw.  I hate the standard Veritas rods, very stiff.  The winch series is the cranking specific rod, with a more moderate action, and I think it is great for smaller cranks.  $99 at Academy or BPS, etc.

Thank you all for your input on cranking rods. I appreciate you taking the time to help. I am going to look at a few and then stimulate the economy.

+1 on the St Croix Mojo crankbait rod. Casts well, nice parabolic action for warts on light line and light as a feather.

St. Croix just upgraded their Mojo series models released earlier this year. They claim they are now 15% lighter. For sure a quality stick from a quality company. For the $100-140 price tag they probably aren't gonna be beat.
