One of the guys that I work with has these stocked in his farm pond. I still haven't been able to get over there to catch one. Congrats on catching one of those guys! I think that they are pretty cool looking.

Why do they feel the need to tinker with crappie genetics ?  

Bored biologists can't ever seem to leave things alone, and piddling around with the native fishes genes could be irreversible.

heard of some caught on Truman, but I've never seen one.

So it's not a natural phenom?  It's a fish created in a lab?

They are also called Arkansas Short nosed crappie and were supposedly first found about 30 years ago in the White River.
