Bushbeater Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Caught a Crappie yesterday with a black stripe from it's nose to dorsal fin. Thought someone had painted it on till I found this article. First I ever heard of such a thing. http://www.crappie101.com/crappie-forums/black-nose-crappie
Johnsfolly Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 One of the guys that I work with has these stocked in his farm pond. I still haven't been able to get over there to catch one. Congrats on catching one of those guys! I think that they are pretty cool looking.
Dutch Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 There are a bunch of them in the James River Arm of Table Rock. Seth 1
shrapnel Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 They are pretty thick in Kinkaid Lake as well, they are supposed to grow faster / bigger.
fishinwrench Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Why do they feel the need to tinker with crappie genetics ? Bored biologists can't ever seem to leave things alone, and piddling around with the native fishes genes could be irreversible. MOPanfisher 1
WHARFRAT Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 heard of some caught on Truman, but I've never seen one. So it's not a natural phenom? It's a fish created in a lab? @lozcrappie
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 All I know is they taste just as good
Ranger520vx Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I catch quite a few of them out of Pomme too.
Dutch Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 They are also called Arkansas Short nosed crappie and were supposedly first found about 30 years ago in the White River.
