Moswimb8slinger Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Post kill is a 8.69lbs LM on a River2Sea S-waver 200, March 2014, in the Dam area. Pre-fish kill, my dad did alot of the lunker catching, most of the bigger LM were in the 6lbs range, and SM/Spots were in the 4's / low 5's. I have seen Spots in the 5lbs+ range, unfortunately they were trying to annihilate my biggest baits by bull nosing them at the surface, in the spring. It was like watching Shark Week when they tow around the seal decoy. The biggest spot I saw at that time, came out of the water and flipped over the bait, it had to be at least 22" long. magicwormman, Quillback, Hammer time and 1 other 4

They need to put hooks on that seal decoy. And maybe a prop. Moswimb8slinger, Champ188 and snagged in outlet 3 3

Hammer time Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 Iteresting, before the fish kill, my buddies and I regularly caught 5-7 pounders every spring granted mostly night fishing and rogues in all the timber that's now gone. I fished the James arm yesterday where is probably the largest concentration of blacks and only caught 1. Seems the blacks after the kill have dropped greatly in numbers and those that are still around are deep dwellers except in pre-spawn through posts then they head deep. Just some of my thoughts and observations. magicwormman and merc1997 Bo 2

Thursday I had a 4-5 foot tarpon take a wallop at my surface fly 40' from me. Scared the crap out of me. Then it bolted right at me while I'm waste deep in water. It didn't last long but it was memorable. Champ188, dtrs5kprs, Johnsfolly and 1 other 4
magicwormman Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 9.1 pre fish kill on a jig/pig in early April near pt. 5. 8.9 post fish kill on a topwater near KC in early May. I totally agree with Babler, our lm numbers are still way down since the glory years. I've only caught one decent lm shallow, during the spawn, just a tad over 6 lbs. The other few lm over 4 have came in 20 ft or more. I used to live in KC and normally fished from Baxter to the dam. I had high hopes when I moved to the mid James for lm, but I think the numbers of quality fish is actually better in the mid lake area. Everyone knows the spots and sm fishing is far superior from KC to the dam. Wart 57, dtrs5kprs and Hammer time 3
Sprint21fter Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 6 1/4lbs on a 6XD in the Baxter area, May 2014. 2nd biggest 6lbs for sure didn't have a scale but caught it on a plopper this year Baxter area as well. If I was in California it wouldn't have been a legal catch. Later this year I caught a double close to 10 lbs on the plopper caught these in Kings river. Happy new year everyone. Except for the crankbait fish the others were caught in 1 1/2 ft of water. Dhunter1, magicwormman, Quillback and 1 other 4
Quillback Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 The Plopper was working on MLF when they fished LOZO.
gitnby Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I rarely weigh fish, but I would guess 7.5-8 lbs on the 2 biggest bass I have caught. One was at night before the kill on a black 10" worm, and the other was after the kill on a WW. I will say I enjoy the post-kill fishing more with the increase in the smallies. The number of 3-4+ lb ers in the lake is amazing! Give me a couple of those on every trip and I am a happy guy! magicwormman, skeeter, Hammer time and 1 other 4
