Hey guys, im trying to get into trout fishing. Ive fished a lot of small streams and lakes around the area, but mostly focused on catching bass. Ive fished at roaring river a few times and caught a couple rainbows Both times. Jolly Mill is only about 6 miles from my house, so I would love to start fishing there. Im just looking for some tips on where to fish capps and what to use. None of my family or friends trout fish, so im lost when it comes to trout fishing. Ive scanned through the forums and it sounds like capps isnt the easiest to catch fish in, buts its one of the closest streams to my house. Thanks for any help, Austin.

Thats the problem, I dont have any fly fishing gear yet and not sure where to start on it. Im assuming I could start out with a light spinning reel and rod with a rooster tail or a jig. Again, I really know nothing about fishing for trout lol. Fly fishing does sound like something I would like to get into though.

I fished it yesterday and had little success.  Right now the water is low and SUPER clear.  In the holes that are the deepest, I could stand there and see bottom without any problems and normally that isn't the case there.  Caught two bows on an olive jig I tie and a goggle-eye.  Didn't see much of anything in that clear water.  And yes, it can be a tough cookie most of the time.

Here is a big Brown my fishing buddy caught (and mounted)

he has caught and released 7 fish over 10 pounds, there are big fish to be had in Capps if you know its secrets

as a note my friend is 6' about 250...a prize for the closest guess on what his fish weighed....

9 lbs.

certainly lots of food in Capps for those big brownies. Regular supply of stocker rainbows is a good winter time diet.

My biggest so far from there was a 23" brown that would have gone around 5#.  I have tried and tried to get MDC to protect the browns in there, but since it is only a white ribbon stream I was told it would take mountains to move before we could get that done.  Yep, it has some big ones in there and you just have to know or fish it regularly to know how to catch them.  I'll say 6 pounds 12 ounces.
