well, number 1, there is a reason that man has eradicated some animals.  would you want a pack of wolves living in your back yard, or a yard full of rattle snakes?  but, lets reintroduce something that is destructive.  that makes really good sense.  so those that love otters, do not gripe or wonder why you are not catching any fish.  believe me, they are way more destructive to all fish populations than someone that keeps a few to eat.

man has dominion over the animals for a reason.  there are some species that do need some stocking and those that are an endangerment do not need to be stocked.  kind of like we do not stock flies or mosquitoes, right?

I have never complained about fishing results, I'm an accomplished angler and haven't been skunked on the Rock ever and Stockton once since 81.

Yes I would like to have wolves in my back yard, humans killed them all! I never have or will complain about fishing, I take what's given and make the best out of it!!

If you'd like wolves in your backyard contact the Wisconsin DNR they may be able to help. They are very successful at introducing predatory species. Wolves were introduced in northern Wisconsin in the late 90's by the Wi DNR and they have literally exploded in numbers and have decimated the deer population and the first minor Elk introduction herd. Hunters in the northern third of the state in recent seasons have reported seeing more wolves than deer during the 9 day season.Sometimes nature has has much better control than humans.

My dock is also covered with scales and excrement from our relatively new inhabitants!!!!

way back when i was a young child, my granddad had fishing ponds that he stocked.  otters got into them and killed everything in them in a matter of just a few days.  he killed all of the otters and had to restock the ponds.  no fishing for a few years because of that result.

in a lake, creek, river or pond, otters do not have any enemies.  they do a very good job of breeding and expanding.  not only do they kill all of the fish, but they also decimate the food sources such as minnows, perch, and crawdads.

in the emerald beach area, all the dock owners were all complaining about not having any fish around their docks.  the problem was otters.  one of the neighbors there built some traps and started killing them.  after most of them had been killed, it took another year for any fish to return around those docks.

Otters will certainly do major damage in ponds or smaller restricted waters.  They love docks with brush around them and especially fish boxes i.e. buffets.  Can't blame the fish for not wanting to be around a dock where everything that swims gets eaten.  And yeah the do love crawdads. Around the lakes you about need a neighbor who is ready willing and able to trap otters.
