Its my fav show...I DVR every episode as well! I just wish they would let one amateur a tourney in to compete against the pros. I think that would be neat to show average joe. Would give that under dog guy that we could all root for! It would be something different too. Hey surely an amature can catch 12 inchers too! Do a drawing and pull a name out and let them compete! Just a fun idea for me lol...

That would be sweet. But think about it, what would their sponsors, the people who pay their way, think if an average Joe beat them? Even if he beat them just once out of every 8 tourneys. Regular Joe would be gettin' a new bright colored, all logo'ed up jersey with their name on the back. Then he would be just like them.

Amateurs are very scarce these days. Every fisherman I know is right up there nipping the heels of pro-level.  Just give them some financial backing and keep their wives happy for a bit..... and they would be taking their share of the glory.  No doubt about it.

Fishinwrench; there are a whole lot of us amateurs out there. We are all just unkown as we all just fun fish. Up here there are very few tournament anglers. Heck I have fished a total of 3 big bass tournies and if you want to count it; one MLF type deal between my wife and I and James and Donna. LOL

The deal with James and Donna was WAY more fun than the big bass tournaments. LOL

Depends on how you use the term "amateur".   Having seriously honed skills capable of competing against the best anglers in the area....but not actually making your living by fishing, might define you as an amateur in the business world, but definitely not in the fishing world.

If I walked away from my shop today and started a landscaping business would I still be a professional Marine technician, or would I cease to be one, and immediately become a professional landscaper? (even though I have no skills in landscaping whatsoever, except that I look really cool when leaning on a shovel).

I do believe that if we were all independently wealthy and fished every day we would be good sticks as well. Time on the water is the most important learning tool we have.

I know a guy that claims to be a pro fisherman.  As far as I can tell he fishes charity tourneys and the Wednesday cash deal at LOZ.  Is he a pro?

In my book he's the same as the weekend golfer playing in a scramble.  Hardly a pro.

BTW he has a full time job up here the burbs.

I consider an AM a guy or gal that has a 40 hour + a week job but loves to fish and maybe does a tourney here and there...If you aint trying to make a livin out of your winnings from fishing then your an AM in my small pea brain.
