Members jackdizo Posted February 22, 2017 Members Posted February 22, 2017 Ventured down to the Eleven Point last weekend with a friend for some camping, floating, and fishing. Average 65 degree weekends in February don't always show up, so we were excited to get out on the water. We ended up deciding we would only float from Greer to Turner and move at a snails pace, picking apart each good looking stretch of water as we went. Friday was bluebird skies and warm, probably nearing 70 degrees. Fishing in this weather although very enjoyable, made it a little tougher then usual, but we still managed around 13-14 rainbows a piece. Saturday brought light rain and overcast skies which I was excited about because it usually turns the fish on, and I was not mistaken. We both brought to hand around 25 trout a piece with 4 in the 17-18 inch range and one big male hitting 20. We also hooked into some smallmouth, goggle eye, and sight fished pickerel in a backwater slough, breaking off two and bringing one nice one to hand, they couldn't stand a clouser getting stripped passed them... The river is currently low and clear but in great shape, and the fish all seemed to be real healthy. Flies of choice were stonefly patterns, white streamers, marabou jigs, prince nymph and egg patterns. Big shout out to Brian Sloss for the great service on our shuttle and helping us out as always! A few pics attached, get out there and get some! Cheers, Jack ness, Greasy B, mzrealfish and 13 others 16
Ham Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 It's a nice river. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Johnsfolly Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Great photos and report! That pickerel didn't have a white zig jig in its mouth? If you are near the boat access, I had one just cut me off right there the last time I fished the 11 pt.
MaxDrown Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 The pickerel is beautiful and big! Nice catch! That's the first real stonefly I've every seen on the EPR, and I have looked for the often. How did you locate it, under a rock? -- Max Drown
JestersHK Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Nice report! Beautiful pics. Looks like a blast. Also on my list of rivers to hit this year.
Gavin Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Looks like a great time! Good for you guys and thanks for the report!
mzrealfish Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Awesome picture quality. My Samsung note 4 is such an underachiever.
jdmidwest Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I had to pic Bass Boat up at Doniphan Sat. and really wanted to fish the 11PT. Tried to talk fishing buddy into pulling Jet Boat over for the day. We ended up at Spring River instead and waded from Bayou up past the big falls. I ended up with 12 small trout, nothing impressive, but fun. Looks like we made the wrong turn. We did manage a short hike that morning at the Narrows, he had never been into the springs from the hillside access. 30 years of fishing that river together and we still manage to see something new in the area most every trip.
