Break it and fish - or what?

I pulled up on a point Friday and the first 3 casts I had 3 fish - only one was a keeper but tons of fun. On my 4th cast I got hung up. I was throwing a Rock Crawler and they are not cheap. I only have a total of 2 RC's so I didn't really want to break it off, but I REALLY didn't want to spook any fish that could still be remaining on the point. 

What do you do? Break off a $10.00 lure in hopes to catch everything on the point (if there is anything left) OR go get your lure and try to make your self believe that there are only 3 fish on the point anyway. 

Any other way to handle this dilemma?

Retrieve it, fish it again in 30 minutes.

Cut your line, add a split shot about the current water depth from the end of the line, and tie the end of the line to an empty water bottle or something that will float. Throw it in the water, and try to keep it way out of the way from your casting angle. After you're done fishing, pick up the water bottle / floatable and pull your line until you reach the hangup. The split shot will keep all the line down in the water column, except where it goes straight up to your floater. Helps avoid your next lure and possibly fish as you fight it to the boat. 

Not sure I'd mess with that over a Rock Crawler but to each their own - different story if it was a pre rap wiggle wart!

 

PS Make sure you don't use a bobber or something small enough to be pulled down by the split shot!

Good idea, if there is a way,  I get my lure back. Shoot I have gotten my lure retriever out for a 1/2 oz jig with a swim bait, and got it back. I hate loosing stuff. I throw enough money in the lake.

I always try to retrieve them....try to be quite if possible, but can always come back later in need be.  Besides, I don't like to get down to only 2 or 3 of the same lures in each box!  Now that I think about it, I probably need to lose some so I can spend my down time buying more!!

I leave them and use the ole bobber trick; then try to get the bait before I leave the spot. (mentioned above). I don't get enough time on the water anymore to risk messing up a productive spot. :-(
