BilletHead Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 A great day slaying the Whites, Met forum member and friend Curtise and hit the river. Threw clousers and even smashed them on white woolly buggers. Curt and I both were throwing 250 grain sink tip line. Fish were caught in water between a foot to five foot deep. Would guesstimate 80+ percent males. Forty yard section of the river. Some took the fly on the drift, some a slow strip and others a fast strip. Did not matter they wanted it badly, Curt with a fish on, Here is my clicker number. One of those clicks was a lost crappie away from his friends . Curt would not let me see or tell me his number. Curt kept fourteen for friend of his the rest are still swimming, BilletHead sucks, you don't have to say it I will . fishinwrench Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I'm blown away that you are back home already. Around here they don't fire up until after 4:30pm. My WB filleting always takes place in the dark. Good job! BilletHead 1
BilletHead Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 First fish caught at 7:45 and we broke the rods down for the ride to the pull out at 2:00 PM. Never a dull moment between those times. Did take a couple breaks for sustenance. There was much laughing at each other also. The Mr.s wants to go tomorrow but she was told she had strep today. Might have to leave her at home in the morning. That may go over like a lead balloon. BilletHead is keeping his distance today but did kiss her yesterday . One thing is for sure though. Just when you think you have it figured out they do something to let you know you were wrong. I love fishing.

BilletHead Posted April 11, 2017 Author Posted April 11, 2017 Now that me belly is full and satisfied we will get down to business, Back at it with the Mrs. Said she felt better this morning. I was going with or without her and she wanted to go. They were not going nuts like yesterday as we only caught 48. Not sure why they had slowed down. Because of the pounding yesterday, a tad less flow, cooler air temp, the cumulative effect of all? We kept fifteen of the biggest ones. One female dropped eggs in the live well and was spewing them as I pulled her out for cleaning. Caught some of those stinking green bass too. Chartreuse over orange and pink over white Clousers and epoxy minnows. Started fishing about 7:45 and quit a noon. Small crappie the Mrs. is hauling in, What did I learn today? Besides how busy the river can be when fish are biting how some people present them selves in the outdoors. For crying out loud this place is along walk if you want to get there and bank fish. If you can carry it in carry it out. Pure laziness, go figure? Other things. Yesterday Curt and I and today the Mrs. and I watched a guy catch fish from a steep bank. What he wanted he threw in the grass and brush behind him. What he did not want he just dropped on the steep bank. Some slid back into the water, some got hung up in the mud and bank brush not making it back to the water. When he was done he got into the fish pile behind him and cherry picked what he had piled. Fish he decided he did not want that had been up there for fifteen or more minutes went over the bank dead towards the water. Guess he did not read the culling thread in general discussion. MOPanfisher Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 If I could figure out a way to consistently catch carp on a fly rod I might quit fishIng for anything else. I see the aluminum cans, worm containers etc. in places I don't even know how they walked in. We used to have an MDC Agent, one of his pet peeves was littering. A couple times a year he would hide in the woods above a popular bank fishing location with his binoculars and a notebook. Folks who would leave and leave behind their trash would be met on the road out of the area. They always denied it, sometimes quite vociferously, he would route his nitebook, tell them when hey took the can out of the cooler, and when they set it down, and left.
