jdmidwest Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 We have had a dose of water here too. Current River has reached record levels, closed road at Doniphan for first time. Water over bridge at 160 near Hufstedlers on the 11 Pt. Forecast shows that the emergency spillways on Clearwater and Wappapello will be breached this week also. As of now, I have recorded over 10" of rain since Fri. Riverton Doniphan "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
moguy1973 Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I saw that the Van Buren gauge is predicting almost 15' over the previous record. That's insane. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
jdmidwest Posted May 1, 2017 Author Posted May 1, 2017 Now it looks like may be another record crest on the Mississippi too. They may close 55 at Meramec Bottom again. Daryk Campbell Sr Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 During the new years flood. Telegraph Rd was the only way in and out of the city. It was very close to closing down. ollie Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I think every creek and river south of 44 is flooding at some point from what I have been seeing! "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
moguy1973 Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 They are saying at this point I-55 will remain open, although I-44 will be closing at Valley Park. Supposed to get another inch of rain on Wednesday so that could change things though. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
ozark trout fisher Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 Obviously this is a lesser concern, but I always find it amazing that stream fish, by and large, seem to survive their rivers becoming 100x bigger, faster, and more powerful. I know there is always some mortality, but never what you'd think based on looking at so much as a single photo. At the risk of sounding weird, I wonder what a huge flood is like from the underwater perspective. I'm always secretly a little stunned when they don't all end up in the Gulf of Mexico. mixermarkb 1
fishinwrench Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 I've always heard that the water on the bottom of the main channel remains calm and reasonably clean. So I assume that they hang out there and just chill while all the craziness goes on above them.
Old plug Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 Personally I am hpy woth thos as far as LOZ goes. I would rather fosh in thos at this time of the year than a long period of no rain on this lake.
jdmidwest Posted May 2, 2017 Author Posted May 2, 2017 But every big flood helps the Asian Carp move up further into the watersheds. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
