On Wednesday I finished a new rod to replace the jig/worm rod whose guide broke.  I spiral wrapped Recoil micros to a Mudhole blank with a Winn split grip. Nothing too fancy, but done the way I like sticks. Late this morning I went out to test it.  It was just what I wanted. I managed to catch three on a HD craw attached to a 1/4 ounce brown jig. I will really like this rod.

Water temp 73.

Nice to catch fish on gear you've made yourself.

That is the truth. I have another rod started to become my vertical spoon rod. The five slots in the center console rod box will be a 5'6" top water rod for my Top Dollars, a 7" cranking rod, a 6'6" spinner bait/jig rod, a 7' worm/vertical spoon rod, and a Ned rod. The two rods in the side box are the walleye rigging and troll rods. Seven rods seem to cover all for me. And all will be made by my own hand.

Seven rods?

What about the other thirty?

Sounds like a lot of wasted deck space if you ask me!

I have always been odd, and I have learned to enjoy it. I have a small (16.5 feet) deep v tin boat with a not a mercury motor. My front deck carries me and a net (no foot pedal) and all the lures are in one compartment in the back.

30 rods? To paraphrase Bill, "I just don't hate them that much."

good looking meanie ther now a pic of the rod

Rod is already in the boat. Next time I am out I will snap a picture. Really not a show piece, but functional. Similar to my Ned rod that some of you have seen, but with a Winn grip kit that I really liked.

Love to make rods too. Had only self made rods in use up until last year when they got stolen over July 4th. Insurance was fair but I had to buy rods to finish season. Working on a drop shot now. Love Mudhole. RPS, how come such a short rod for topwater?

I am short. Not much clearance between me and the water. I walk the dog best with my tip down. If I were 6'2", I would have made it a 6' rod. Besides, when it comes to accuracy, which often counts for top water. shorter is better. The picture below shows the handle section of the TW rod I built on a St. Croix SCIV Mudhole had on sale several years ago.
