Ham Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I had planned to try to get to 4000 fish this year, but life said NOPE. Not enough opportunities and my timing was just off on some of my trips. There was real life terrible sad drama and mundane road blocks too. I'll likely get to 2500 fish, but 3000 is a real reach. Sooo, when you realize that you chosen a unattainable target, switch targets. I decided to go for my 52 species in a calander year goal again. I was blessed with a chance to go fish in British Columbia. I added 9 new fish to the life list and put myself back on track to get to 52. I got another shot in the arm when John came for a micro trip. So, I'm up over 40 species which was my old high water mark for species. I hope to head south in October and take Dear Old Dad out and catch some La/Tx fish. but I flat need help figuring out suckers on a hook and line. I know some guys manage to catch a few. Please help a brother out. It will be C&R only. If I can get a couple or three species of suckers to hand, that may be enough to put me over the top. There are lots of species all around you. A trip to the south will build your numbers as well, especially if you get in the brine down In LA. Same techniques we used on your creeks work in the tidal creeks as well. I'll let you know how I do going out after dark for madtoms.

ozark trout fisher Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 I can't help you any, but I can say that sounds like a pretty good year on the water, especially for being considered a disappointment! Ham 1
top_dollar Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Ive caught a few out of taneycomo amd various rivers using live worms. Ham 1
Ham Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 I think it almost has to be a worms and small hook fished stationary near bottom. I can't keep non targeted species off of it long enough to get bit by suckers. grizwilson and Johnsfolly 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Fish24/7 Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 live freshwater mussel meat is definitely worth a try ,not the dead one's use whatever hook you like and bite size chunks of it split shot rigged on the bottom. I used to fish for them just below a riffle. When I was 9 ,I caught a 9lb red horse on the Bourbeuse river on elephant ear meat.

I wonder if clam meat would work as well. Might be a good use of the oversized tough as rubber boot clams they sell here☺. Ham 1

I wouldn't use an elephant- ear now because they are on that list, but we can pick from many of other species found in MO. Asian clams are a good option, invasive and no limit i believe. Johnsfolly 1
