I fished the White River (tail waters of Bull Shoals) last summer. The fishing was really tough with all the flood gates open and i saw more than one guide chumming the water with gallon cans of corn. To me that's kinda like hunting a baited stand. I can't seen find where it's illegal, so I guess if it produces fish, pictures and $$$, it ethical? I'm always looking for way to improve the bite, but I've heard corn is hard on trout's digestive system. So, I was just wondering if there is a more ethical method?

Yep, get a 50 lb bag of fish feed, better for the trout. Seen it done on Taney..... then to be real sporting use a fish food foam fly on the fly rod.

I always use miniature marshmallows. I eat half and then put the other half on my fly hook. As far as the fish food, I only buy it twenty five cents worth at a time at the hatchery. Just don't put it in the same pocket with the marshmallows.

IMHO Chumming is an art form

canned sweet corn is notoriously hard for a trout to digest, won't kill them ether... just won't grow fat eating corn...

so if your were a guide and you wanted to chum......Hi protein layers pellets 16% to 17% if you can find it peacock chow 28% is better, but more expensive...but FAR more affordable than cans of sweet corn...go to wally world and get a bottle of Tai Fish sauce and put it in a cheap spray  bottle and in a 5 gal bucket LIGHTLY mist the pellets then give the bucket a tossing mix....

hook baits a hair rigged pop fake pellet (made by enterprise) will work well and have less gut hooked fish

maggots are another great chum, they can be ordered on line and a single plastic pop up maggot with live offerings on a maggot clip will produce fish when nothing else will

one trick is to chum pellets, then just a handful of maggots, and use maggots as hook baits.....it stands out from the chum bed and seems to get the bigger fish

as a note the fish sauce trick works for bass walleyes and crappie...spritz up a feather jig in the back of the boat and just smile ;)

I can't believe I am considering using my fish sauce on lures.  Although it smells about the same as the stuff I do use so maybe it will work.  Dang it MOCARP you may have actually provided something useful.
