Guest Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I've been on the fence about buying the self inflatable suspender style PFDs. apparently they fail more often than not. So, I'm exploring life jackets that I can wear 24/7 when i'm out on the boat. Some of the kayak fishing life vest look really functional. I'm leaning towards the NRS Chinook PFD. Its kinda pricey but your life is on the line so price is relative. https://www.nrs.com/product/40009.03/nrs-chinook-fishing-pfd The other option is a float jacket. I stumbled across the Frabill i-Float jacket. It looks pretty amazing but I wonder if its insulated or just a bonafide life jacket? Has anybody else used a float coat? http://www.frabill.com/apparel/ice-fishing-apparel/i-float-jacket.html
Flysmallie Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 That float jacket isn't going to be very comfortable in July. grizwilson 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I've been doing the same thing. The thing I don't like about the Chinook style is the pockets bulge out and get in the way. At least that's what I've experienced with similar models.

grizwilson Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I can assure you that you do NOT want a self inflatable inside a sit in kayak.....just sayin.... I use this one in my SOT and have been pleased but not really tested: https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/no-limits-sabine-red-personal-flotation-device#repChildCatid=1017506 Smalliebigs 1 “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
fishinwrench Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 After seeing how CO2 airguns act in the cold, I sure wouldn't trust anything that depends on a CO2 cartridge during cooler weather. grizwilson and dtrs5kprs 2

moguy1973 Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 I have a Stohlquist Fisherman kayak vest that I use in my kayak. It's much like the NRS one you posted and has front pockets like that one. And if you look around a little cheaper in price. http://www.stohlquist.com/life-jackets/fishing-pfds/fisherman.html https://www.amazon.com/Stohlquist-Fisherman-Personal-Floatation-Device/dp/B0050HDACS?th=1&psc=1 https://www.austinkayak.com/outlet/products/814/Stohlquist-Fisherman-High-Back-PFD-Closeout.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping:%20ACK%20PLA&adpos=1o1&scid=scplp814_2740_2&sc_intid=814_2740_2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq7am3IDd2AIVgmx-Ch2shgQkEAkYASABEgKFLfD_BwE -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
